About Me
Born in Forth Worth, Texas and reared on a ranch in northern New Mexico, Garry attended the University of New Mexico and the University of Texas – Arlington, before receiving a BA from the University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio. Beginning in industry as a machine tool designer and draftsman in 1965, Garry worked his way up in the Aircraft, Electric Motor, and Military Ordnance industries for such companies as Emerson Electric, LTV Aerospace, FMC Corporation, General Dynamics, and Rockwell International before joining Johnson Controls Inc. in 1987 as Operations Manager in an Automotive parts factory in Indiana. Since then, Garry has been responsible for numerous automotive seating and interiors factories in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Gaining new business in England led to a 1990 assignment with Johnson Controls as General Manager, Toyota-Europe, and as the company expanded, he served as the first Director of Program Management – Europe, based in Germany. From 1995 to 1999 Garry was Vice President and General Manager of JCI’s global Toyota Business Unit operations producing metal frames, polyurethane foam, trim covers, complete seating and other interior trim products for such models as Corolla, Camry, Tacoma, Hi-Lux, Avalon, and Carina with operations in Canada, England, USA, Argentina, Brazil and Australia. From 1999, Garry was responsible for Johnson Controls’ Automotive Seating and Interiors businesses and Engineering Centers in the Asia Pacific region; with multiple locations in Japan, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and India. He personally spearheaded the company’s moves into Australia, Korea, and Vietnam. In this capacity he served on the Board of Directors of eleven Joint Ventures, and led the growth of JCI throughout Asia with some 39 factories and over 10,000 employees under his guidance with full P&L responsibility.
