The car is usually the preferred approach to navigate West Olympia. It is very easy to find a place to park. In contrast, West Olympia is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, the community is served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far from most homes. West Olympia is not particularly cycling-friendly as the cycling infrastructure is not very extensive, and there are quite a few slopes. Thankfully, residents often decide to move around by bicycle. It is also difficult for pedestrians to navigate West Olympia as few common errands can be run without a vehicle.

It is a very short distance to reach primary schools from anywhere in West Olympia. However, there are only a very small number of high schools and accordingly they can be a very long trip away. Locals benefit from public and private elementary schools. With respect to food, in all but a limited number of cases, a car is required to buy groceries. That being said, this community is a good place in which to eat out, and a small variety of cafes is available as well.
