It is very challenging for pedestrians to get around in Ruby as carrying out daily needs is inconvenient without a vehicle. Ruby is also not very conducive to biking because the cycling infrastructure is quite poor, and there is a significant amount of elevation changes.

Property owners in Ruby typically have to use a vehicle to travel to the nearest supermarket. Residents are served by a few restaurants and cafes. As far as education is concerned, primary schools are not plentiful in this part of the Kingston metropolitan area, and thus often beyond a short distance, and there are no high schools.
