Riverhead is a fairly pleasant part of the Greater New York metropolitan area for pedestrians; meeting daily needs is easy without the use of a vehicle, and a variety of businesses are reasonably close by. In contrast, traveling by bicycle is sometimes difficult in Riverhead as the bicycling network is not very extensive, and there are a good number of slopes for cyclists to brave. Riverhead is very car friendly. Parking is easy, and many homes for sale are a reasonably short drive from the nearest highway. However, commuting by transit can be occasionally difficult in this part of the Greater New York metropolitan area by reason of the low service level. Thankfully, train stations, including the Riverhead with access to the Ronkonkoma Branch, are not very far away from the bulk of houses in the community. There are a few bus lines crossing the community, and most homes are very close to a bus stop.

Services

The nearest supermarket in this part of the Greater New York metropolitan area is generally only a short pedestrian trip away. Additionally, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner, for instance on Main Street, and a small selection of cafes can be found as well. It is also a rather short trip to a decent selection of clothing stores. As far as education is concerned, residents will welcome that no matter where their house is located in Riverhead, both primary and secondary schools are nearby. Apart from public schools, there are private elementary and secondary schools.

Character

Riverhead is a community to buy a house in for those who prefer a chill atmosphere. Since there are few pedestrians, Riverhead remains relatively quiet; however those who are closer to the airport (Talmage Fld) or the railway line may experience more noise.
