Portland
Portland offers a peaceful and quiet atmosphere with minimal street noise and a calm setting near the railway line. The community features primarily single detached homes alongside some duplexes, with many properties built before 1960, providing classic architectural charm. Dining options are conveniently located within the area, and essential services such as pharmacies are easily accessible. Education is well-supported, as primary and secondary schools are nearby regardless of location within the community. Parking availability is ample, accommodating car travel comfortably. Although bike lanes are limited due to the hilly terrain, several bus lines cross the neighborhood, connecting residents to nearby areas efficiently.
The preferred approach to move around in Portland is usually driving. It is very easy to park. However, Portland is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, the community is linked by about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are typically around the corner. Portland is not very bike-friendly since there are quite a few elevation changes, and the cycling network is rather poor. It is also challenging for pedestrians to get around in Portland as few daily errands can be run without a car.
It is a reasonably short trip to reach both primary and secondary schools from anywhere in Portland. Locals have the option of public and private schools at both the elementary and high school level. Regarding eating, in most cases, a car is needed in Portland to reach one of around 10 grocery stores. Nonetheless, reaching the nearest pharmacy and thus some staple foods is usually convenient. There are also over 100 restaurants and coffee shops in Portland.
Portland is a very good community to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed atmosphere. Portland is very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamor near the railway line. Parks are spread out sporadically, making it rather difficult to access them from the majority of locations in this part of the Greater Hartford metropolitan area. Still, there are over 100 green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, like Portland Air Line Trail Spur and Pecausett Johnson Kalinowsky Preserve.
