In contrast, Plains is not very suited for biking as the cycling network is rather poor, and riding is made difficult by the typically sloping terrain.

It is very easy to get to the closest grocery store without a car from any location in Plains. Most areas in Plains are quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamor, however some parts can be quite loud, especially near the airport (Wilkes-Barre Wyoming Valley) or one of the railway lines. On the other hand, most locations within the community have reasonably good access to parks, such as Luzerne County Recreational Complex and Plains Township Municipal Park, since there are about 10 of them close by for residents to enjoy. Finally, even though the ambience is not the liveliest in this part of the Wyoming Valley metropolitan area places to go out at night are well-spread throughout the community.
