Oakland is very car friendly. Parking is easy, and most homes for sale are a reasonably short car ride from the nearest highway, such as I-95. This town is not very convenient for pedestrians as running common errands is inconvenient without a vehicle. Biking is also difficult in Oakland since the bicycling infrastructure is quite bad, and there are a fair number of elevation changes for cyclists to brave.
Services
High schools and primary schools are not abundant in Oakland, and accordingly may require a very long trip to get to. Along with public schools, there are private elementary and high schools. Concerning food, reaching the closest supermarket without needing to get in a car is an option for some, but not all, house buyers in Oakland. A limited number of restaurants are available in this area as well.
Character
Oakland is a fairly good town to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm environment. Oakland is quiet overall, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although there are still several noisier areas, especially closer to the railway line, I-95 or the airport (Waterville Robert Lafleur).
