Cars are an excellent transportation option in Makawao. It is very easy to park. Getting around as a pedestrian is not very practical for house buyers in Makawao since meeting day-to-day needs is impractical without a vehicle. It is also challenging to travel by bicycle in this part of Upcountry because riding is made arduous by the typically steep terrain, and there are few bike lanes.

Both primary and secondary schools are easy to get to without a car from most houses for sale in Makawao. Along with public schools, there are private elementary and high schools. With respect to food, it is very difficult to reach the nearest supermarket without the need for a car from any home in Makawao.
