The bicycle is a somewhat poor method of transportation in Hillside Lake because the bicycling network is not very well-developed, and there are quite a few elevation changes. Nonetheless, there is a reasonably high density of cyclists. This community is also not very convenient for pedestrians because almost no daily needs can be carried out without a vehicle.

House buyers in this community generally need a car to do their grocery shopping. There are also a few opportunities for those who value nearby restaurants. With regards to education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh metropolitan area.
