Portland East
Hazelwood features a comprehensive bicycling network that makes getting around convenient for residents who prefer two wheels. A variety of bus lines and multiple nearby rapid transit stations provide additional transportation options, connecting the area with surrounding locations. Numerous supermarkets, restaurants along 103rd Avenue, and several coffee shops contribute to a vibrant local dining scene. The neighborhood includes well-distributed parks, adding green spaces to enhance outdoor experiences. Housing consists mainly of single detached homes as well as large and small apartment buildings, offering a range of two- and three-bedroom living spaces constructed primarily around the early 1970s.
A good number of residents in the area use their bike as the cycling infrastructure is good. Hazelwood is also a fairly pleasant part of Portland for pedestrians; many daily needs can be carried out without a car, and various businesses are moderately close at hand. The transit infrastructure in Hazelwood is not particularly practical. Thankfully, rapid transit stations, including SE Main St MAX Station, E 148th Ave MAX Station and SE Division St MAX Station on the MAX Red Line, MAX Blue Line and MAX Green Line, are generally a short distance away from the bulk of houses in the neighborhood. There are approximately 10 bus lines passing through the neighborhood, and the closest bus stop is usually very close by. In contrast, Hazelwood is reasonably car friendly. Nearby highways, such as E Portland Highway, are rather easy to access from anywhere in this part of the city, and finding a parking spot is generally easy.
It is very often feasible for house buyers in this area to purchase groceries without the need for a car. Moreover, there is typically a restaurant or cafe just around the corner, for example on 103rd Avenue. House buyers can find a fair number of nearby clothing stores. In terms of education, in Hazelwood, residents will generally be able to access primary as well as high schools without a car. In addition to public schools, there are private elementary and high schools.
Hazelwood offers a variety of experiences for those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and spending time in green spaces. Even though this part of Portland is not known for its vibrancy, with its approximately 20 nightlife venues, there are options for nighttime activities. However, getting to green spaces, including Knott Park and Parklane Park, is easy from the majority of locations within the neighborhood since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to relax in.
