The car is usually the preferred method to get around in this part of the Portland metropolitan area. It is a rather short drive to the closest highway, such as I-205, from anywhere in Hazel Dell, and it is very easy to park. However, Hazel Dell is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, there are about 10 bus lines, and the closest bus stop is typically around the corner. It is at times difficult for pedestrians to move around in Hazel Dell because few daily needs can be met without a vehicle. The bicycle is a somewhat poor means of transportation in this community because there are a fair number of elevation changes, and there are few bike lanes.

Residents will find that wherever their home is located in Hazel Dell, both primary and secondary schools are close by. Apart from public schools, there are private elementary and high schools. As far as food is concerned, house buyers in this community will appreciate that a grocery store is always only an extended trip away.
