District 1
Ferndale offers a welcoming community characterized by peaceful streets and nearby green spaces such as Pleasantville Park and North Glen Park. Residents benefit from convenient access to supermarkets, restaurants, and cafes, enhancing daily living with a variety of local amenities. This neighborhood features diverse housing options, including many single detached homes alongside townhouses and small apartment buildings, with a notable presence of three-bedroom residences. Educational opportunities are present nearby, with both public and private elementary schools within reasonable distance. The area’s road network provides straightforward access to major highways, making travel by car convenient for residents in this well-positioned community.
Cars are a great transportation option in Ferndale. It is very convenient to park, and the majority of houses for sale are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, such as Harbor Tunnel Throughway. In contrast, commuting by transit can be challenging in Ferndale due to the service's low frequency. Thankfully, property owners benefit from a few bus lines, and it is very easy to find a nearby bus stop from most homes. Ferndale is not very bike-friendly as there are quite a few slopes, and the bicycling infrastructure is rather limited. There are also relatively few pedestrians out on the streets of this part of the Greater Baltimore metropolitan area, even though most daily needs are easy to meet without the use of a vehicle.
It is challenging to access the closest supermarket without a vehicle from anywhere in this community. Likewise, a restaurant is typically just around the corner, and a small variety of cafes is available as well. Regarding education, primary schools are convenient to reach without a vehicle from most homes for sale in Ferndale. However, there are only a very small number of high schools and thus they can be a very long distance away. Besides public schools, there are private elementary and high schools.
Ferndale is a good community to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm environment. This part of the Greater Baltimore metropolitan area is reasonably quiet, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several louder sections, especially around I-695, I- 895a or one of the railway lines.
