Traveling by bicycle is easy in Federal Heights as there are a good number of bike lanes. This part of the city will also draw house buyers who value living in a compact area since it is moderately pedestrian-friendly; running common errands is convenient without a vehicle, and various businesses are very close by. Traveling by car is convenient in Federal Heights. It is very easy to come across a place to park. However, Federal Heights is not especially transit friendly. Thankfully, it is convenient to reach a nearby rapid transit station, including Fort Douglas Station, University South Campus Station and Stadium Station with access to the 703 Red Line, from the bulk of houses in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is linked by about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are generally around the corner.

It is very difficult to get to the nearest supermarket without the use of a vehicle in this part of Salt Lake City. Moreover, there is typically a restaurant or cafe just around the corner. As far as education is concerned, in Federal Heights, house owners will generally be able to reach primary schools without a vehicle. Federal Heights is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the feel of this part of the city. Although the atmosphere is not the liveliest in this part of Salt Lake City with the bars in nearby neighborhoods, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located a short distance away. Federal Heights is quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic.
