Getting around by car is very easy in Essex. It is very convenient to park, and most of the street infrastructure is built for driving. It is impractical for pedestrians to navigate this community because very few common errands can be run without a car. Essex is also not very suited for biking since there are a fair number of slopes for cyclists to brave, and the bicycling network is fairly poor.

Primary schools are easy to access without a vehicle from anywhere in Essex. In contrast, this community does not have any high schools. With regards to eating, in all but a limited number of cases, a vehicle is required in this part of the Greater Boston metropolitan area to reach the closest grocery store.
