High schools and primary schools are not abundant in Elmwood, and thus may be a very long trip away. Locals have the choice between public and private schools at both the elementary and secondary school level. With respect to food, it is easy to reach the closest grocery store as a pedestrian in this community. In addition, those who are fond of dining in restaurants or cafes will have a fair number of choices in Elmwood. Residents have access to a good number of nearby clothing stores.

Those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere will feel at home in Elmwood. Even though this part of the New Orleans metropolitan area is not known for its vibrancy, with its approximately 10 nightlife venues, there are options for nighttime activities. Thanks to the presence of few pedestrians, this community is relatively quiet, although noise levels are higher closer to one of the railway lines. It is occasionally difficult to get to green spaces within the community since they aren't well-situated. Still, there are a few parks close by for residents to discover.
