This area is well-suited for people who travel as pedestrians; many daily needs are convenient to meet without the use of a car, and there are also a fair number of businesses nearby. On the other hand, bicycling is occasionally challenging in this area because there are a fair number of hills for cyclists to brave, and there are few bike lanes. This borough is not an especially convenient area for moving around by public transit. Nonetheless, there is the Plauderville and Broadway with access to the Port Jervis Line and Main/Bergen County Line. The borough is connected by about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are commonly around the corner. In contrast, cars are a fairly good transportation option in this area. It is a short drive to the closest highway, such as I-80, from any home in this area, and parking is quite easy.
It is a rather short pedestrian trip to get to both primary and secondary schools from any location in this area. Apart from public schools, there are private elementary and secondary schools. As far as food is concerned, property owners in Elmwood Park will appreciate that a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a short pedestrian trip away. Likewise, there are a good number of choices for those who value nearby restaurants and cafes. It is also easy to get to a variety of clothing stores without a car.
Elmwood Park is a great borough for home buyers who enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. Even though the ambience is not the liveliest in this borough finding one of the around 20 bars is easy because they are generally situated in reasonably convenient locations. On the other hand, there are over 50 public green spaces nearby for residents to enjoy, like Nash Park and Belmont Hill Park, and they are especially well-distributed, which makes them easy to get to.
