Getting around by car is very convenient in Elkridge. It is especially convenient to find a place to park, and many houses for sale are a rather short drive from the closest highway, such as Harbor Tunnel Throughway. However, the public transit service in Elkridge is not very frequent. Thankfully, there is the Jessup, BWI Rail Station and Dorsey with access to the Camden - Washington and Penn - Washington. There are a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is usually around the corner. This community is not particularly amenable to cycling because traveling by bicycle is made arduous by the often steep terrain, and there are few bike lanes. Elkridge is also not very conducive to pedestrians as very few common errands can be run without a car.

It is difficult to reach the nearest grocery store as a pedestrian from most properties for sale in Elkridge. A small variety of restaurants and coffee shops is available as well. Regarding education, high schools and primary schools are not very abundant in Elkridge, and thus tend to require an extended pedestrian trip to get to. Residents can choose between public and private schools at both the elementary and secondary school level.

Elkridge offers a calm atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. This community is very quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic closer to the railway line, Harbor Tunnel Throughway or I-95. Lastly, most locations within the community have good access to public green spaces, including Patapsco Valley State Park and Howard County Conservancy at Belmont, and there are over 50 of them close by for residents to check out.
