District 1 is fairly convenient for pedestrians; many daily needs are convenient to meet without the use of a car, and plenty of businesses are close by. Traveling by bicycle is also easy in District 1 because the area is flat. Public transit riders may find limited choices in this part of the city by reason of the service's low frequency. Thankfully, property owners are served by approximately 10 bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. However, driving is very often the favored method to navigate this community. Nearby highways, such as I-135, are very easy to drive to from any location in this area, and it is straightforward to find a place to park.

It is sometimes an option for property owners in District 1 to buy their groceries as pedestrians. Furthermore, this part of Wichita is a good place in which to go out to eat, for instance along Douglas Avenue, and a limited number of coffee shops can be found as well.
