For daily commutes and errands, driving is a highly practical option, with plentiful parking available throughout the village. Although there are few bike lanes, nearby villages provide excellent parks and green spaces that contribute to outdoor recreation opportunities just a short distance away.

Transportation
Driving is a very good transportation option in Buchanan. Parking is quite easy. In contrast, the transit network in Buchanan is rather poor. Thankfully, there is the Cortlandt and Peekskill with access to the Hudson. The village is served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily very close by. A majority of the houses for sale in this part of the Greater New York metropolitan area are located in places that are not very convenient for pedestrians as few common errands can be run without the need to get in a vehicle. Buchanan is also not particularly bike-friendly as there are a fair number of elevation changes to challenge cyclists, and the bicycling infrastructure is rather poor.
Services
In all but a limited number of cases, a car is required to buy groceries. Residents can enjoy about 30 restaurants and coffee shops as well. Regarding education, both primary and secondary schools are convenient to reach without the use of a car from any location in this village.
Character
Buchanan is a very good village to buy a home in for those who prefer a calm ambience. This part of the Greater New York metropolitan area is very quiet, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, it is very easy to access parks in the village since there are a few of them close by for residents to visit.
