The favored method to navigate Big Flats is usually driving. It is a reasonably short drive to the nearest highway, such as I-86, from anywhere in this area, and coming across a parking spot is easy. Getting around by bicycle is challenging in this town as bicycling is rendered strenuous by the often steep terrain, and Big Flats has quite poor cycling infrastructure. It is also difficult for pedestrians to move around in this area as very few common errands can be run without a car.

Primary schools are not plentiful and accordingly may require a very long trip to get to. Along with public schools, there are private elementary and high schools.
