While cycling infrastructure is limited, the overall terrain is flat, facilitating smooth travel across the area. Avondale is particularly car friendly. It is especially convenient to access a place to park, and nearby highways are reasonably easy to drive to from any location in this community. In contrast, residents using public transit may experience few choices in Avondale due to the low service level. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically around the corner. Bicycling is difficult in Avondale because there are very few bike lanes. Thankfully, there are a limited number of hills. Avondale is also not very suitable for pedestrians as very few daily errands can be run without a vehicle.

Services

In Avondale, locals will usually be able to reach primary schools as pedestrians. In contrast, there are only a very small number of high schools and therefore they can be a very long pedestrian trip away. Residents can choose between public and private schools at both the elementary and secondary school level. With regards to eating, in all but a few cases, a car is needed to buy groceries. There are also about 30 restaurants in this part of the New Orleans metropolitan area.

Character

Avondale offers a slower-paced atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. There are a few green spaces nearby for residents to check out, such as Bayou Segnette State Park, which makes it easy to reach them. This part of the New Orleans metropolitan area is also good for those who like quiet surroundings, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamor - however noise can be problematic closer to one of the railway lines.
