However, this part of the city is not especially appropriate for bicycling because there is a considerable amount of elevation changes, and the cycling infrastructure is not very well-developed. 3rd Ward is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, there is the Hawthorne with access to the Port Jervis Line and Main/Bergen County Line. There are about 10 bus lines traversing the community, and most properties are very close to a bus stop. On the other hand, cars are a good mode of transportation in this community. It is a rather short drive to the nearest highway, such as I-80, from anywhere in 3rd Ward.
A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short distance away in this part of the city. Over 50 supermarkets are located nearby, and the best variety can be found on streets such as Passaic County 651 I. In addition, owing to over 100 restaurants and around 10 cafes, 3rd Ward is a fairly good place in which to eat out. It is also a reasonably short distance to a good selection of clothing stores. Regarding education, residents will find that wherever their home is situated in 3rd Ward, both primary and secondary schools are nearby.
No matter what type of character home buyers prefer in a community, 3rd Ward is a reasonably good option. 3rd Ward is fairly good for those who like quiet surroundings, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic, although that is not the case near the railway line or I-80. On the other hand, green spaces, including Eastside Park and Artesian Fields County Park, are very well-distributed and there are approximately 30 of them nearby for residents to enjoy, which makes them easy to reach. Finally, although the ambience is not the liveliest in this part of Paterson, its main streets are still quite energetic, and with its about 10 bars, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink because they are generally located close by.
