Silver Spring is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this part of the Greater Washington metropolitan area. Although this community is not known for its lively ambience, its main streets can still be quite energetic, and with its about 20 bars, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located relatively close by. Thayer Avenue in particular offers a wide variety of nightlife. Silver Spring is reasonably quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic, however some parts can be quite noisy, especially around Capital Beltway or one of the railway lines. It is very easy to access parks in the community, since reaching one from a large number of homes is very easy. There are over 200 green spaces close by for residents to enjoy, such as Pinehurst Parkway and McKenney Hills Park.
