West Point features Benny Havens Band on summer outdoor concerts with the back drop of the Hudson River. Great idea to make a picnic with your friends and family for free entertainment!
Come out and enjoy the music.

We are lucky to have the United States Military Academy West Point located in the Hudson Valley. They offer many wonderful venues and facilities for all of us to enjoy. One of them is The West Point Band that offers and outdoor concert series performed at the majestic Trophy Point Amphitheater.

Audiences are welcome to bring picnics, even their dogs, and visit the beautiful, historic grounds. Enjoy the scenic Hudson River views while The West Point Band performs a wide variety of world-class music. Last night was a jazz concert which was amazing. The concerts are free and open to the public. The 4th of July performance featured a concert and a spectacular fireworks show that is not to be missed as a highlight for the summer season!

I attended the Army hockey game at West Point in November. After a great night of hockey, we were treated to a special event. The Army Black Nights played a group of sled hockey players. For those who do not know, sled hockey is played the same as ice hockey but players are physically impaired in some way. Some players are missing limbs, some may have cerebral palsy, some may have Downs Syndrome. The Nights also played on sleds. It was a lot of fun to watch and root on both teams. In the end, everyone were winners. The Cadets at West Point do many great things and I was happy to witness this one.

Last night we attended the Army vs RMC Hockey game at West Point. This rivalry dates back to 1923 when the General MacArthur called the Commander of the Royal Canadian Military College to arrange a friendly game. Still going on today, it is the oldest rivalry in college sports. It's a fun family game with bands from both schools present. There are Cadets in full uniform, including kilts and older uniforms. And, of course, school mascots.

The Victor Constant Ski Area, located on Route 218 in West Point NY is preparing to open for the season on January 10th, 2015. The recent frigid temperatures should help with the snow making preparations. The Victor Constant Ski Area was first dedicated in 1946 and contains several runs assisted by chairlifts, including the "Nose Dive” Black Diamond Trail, as well as a bunny slope and learning area. There is something for everyone.... and it is open to the General Public. While there are discounts available for D.O.D., the facility is open to everyone. See you on the slopes!
