It wouldn't be fall without a trip to a local favorite - Bauman's Farm Market. While heading to a family dinner, I stopped in and grabbed a dozen of their homemade, melt-in-your-mouth, glazed fried cakes. They barely made it in the door!
  • Ever wonder who drew up the Penfield/Webster School lines? I can tell you! It was the farmers who lived and worked in the area. They would take their produce to a certain market, whether it be in Penfield or Webster.

This was not a problem with the one-room schoolhouse that was up the road from their farm. But when the school systems started expanding to a central high school and junior high school, it became a problem. The farmers said they wanted their children to go to the school where they sent their produce. Because of this, almost 50% of the Town of Penfield is in the Webster School District.

In the late 1990's, this really presented a big problem to the Webster School District because it had grown to the largest school district in Monroe County with over 700 students in each grade. I was on one of several committees to plan the split of the Webster School District into two high schools and junior high schools. This happened in 2001 and it has worked out well. The two high schools in the Webster School District are about the same size as the Penfield High School.
  • To me, there is no better spot in the Rochester area to take a sunrise or sunset photo than Webster Park. Located along the shore of Lake Ontario, you feel like you are on top of the world as the sun either drops beyond the horizon or makes its first appearance of the day.

But with 550 acres, the park offers so much more including trails, athletic field, camping area and tennis courts. The park has excellent picnic facilities, including five lodges and eight open-air shelters that must be reserved in advance. The lodges can accommodate up to 100 people and can be used year round. Groomed cross country trails and a sledding hill make this a popular park year round.

With this being the coldest week of the season we need to keep out pets safety in mind. Lollypop Farm released a reminder to pet owners to keep pets inside during the cold. They advised that pets can not handle the cold conditions for prolonged period of time. So keep yourself and your pets warm this winter.

One of the appealing features in Webster are the nice sized and often wooded home sites. Most lots are at least 100' by 200' and my clients love that little extra space. The town has easy access to expressways and down town. Bordered by Lake Ontario in the north it is a popular community for those of us who love being near the water.
  • The Gosnell Big Parks Preserve is located in the town of Webster and is a glorious 163.4 acre park made up of new and old trees, grassy meadows, and beautiful wildflowers. This land was donated in 2006 by Thomas and Georgia Gosnell and is maintained by the Friends of Webster Trails. The Gosnell Big Woods Preserve is one of the many areas in Webster that can be enjoyed by the town residents and visitors. Take the family and dog through the miles of trails and enjoy the wildlife including turkey, deer, hundreds of birds, the occasional fox or bunny, and many more types of majestic animals.

Webster has many different areas much like this one that residents can enjoy at any time of the year. There are plenty of places to go snowshoeing, ice fishing, or cross country skiing in the winter. Get out and toss a Frisbee, play golf or go boating in the summer time.

Welcome to Webster, New York, where life is worth living!
  • Located at 1775 Ridge Road in Webster, the Eva and Harlan Braman preserve is comprised of approximately 60 acres of field, 11 acres of woodland and a beautiful creek. The mowed trails are open to the public year-round. Through the generosity of the Braman family, the Eva and Harlan Braman Preserve was protected in late 2011 by the Genesee Land Trust. This is a wonderful place for families to enjoy nature together!

Welcome to The Town of Webster, New York, where life is worth living!

With over 40,000 residents, Webster has many housing options. These include community oriented subdivisions, beautiful historic homes, and easy to own patio home neighborhoods for active people, or those looking to simplify. There are also communities specially designed for senior citizens and rural/agricultural areas appealing toward a more country way of life.

Webster is the residence of many established and start-up companies providing jobs and services to local residents. The Webster Chamber of Commerce also represents a variety of local businesses.

Webster values its pristine environment. The town has purchased over 1000 acres of property to be used for hiking trails and other recreational uses for the future. Webster has many parks around the town and village, like Webster Park with its beautiful views of our Great Lake. Also the Webster Arboretum in Kent Park, which has an amazing diversity of Flora and trees.

Two local businessmen have purchased the old Seitz's grocery store located for over 50 years on the corner of Old Ridge and Bay road. Plans for a craft brewery are underway.

What a great idea, although I must say that having lived in Webster for more than 40 years, it's
a little sad, I love the idea of the corner store and even though it hadn't been Seitz's in many years, it is just another change that Webster has and continues to do.
