Walton Lake and Round Lake are some of the best fishing spots in Monroe. They are both easy to get to (located right off of Lakes Road). One of the cool things about these lakes is that they both have easy access to launch your boat. There are no motor boats allowed on either of these lakes. Today there was a yoga class on surfboards going on in Walton Lake.

Crane Park is located in the Village of Monroe. It is also known as the Millponds. Features the Millponds, approximately 1.5 miles in circumference. Great for a walk, a bike ride, jogging or walking the dog. I always seem to see someone I know walking around the town.

Spring has finally sprung here in the Hudson Valley. There is no sight better than to see the sun shining off the lake. It really gives you that "On Golden Pond" feeling. Walton Lake is located in Monroe right off of Lakes Road. It is approximately 117 acres with depths ranging from 22 to 68 feet. It is a non gas motor boat lake...so it is relatively quiet.

The shallow water on the northeast and southwest ends are good places to try for both bass and trout. Shore access is limited. Historically it has been stocked annually with trout. I did catch a 23 inch Chain Pickerel on this northwest end of the Lake...although each time I tell the story the fish get a little bigger

Saturday, April 22nd has been designated as "Operation Clean Sweep Day" in the Town of Monroe. Monroe Clean Sweep will be conducted from 8:00 a.m to 12:00 noon. Plans for the day involve cleaning up litter in several areas; our focal point will be the portion of Route 17M from the intersection of Routes 17 and 17M and some ancillary roads in the Village of Harriman to Airplane Park in the Village of Monroe.

The Monroe Woodbury Little League and the Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce, along with the Town of Monroe and the Villages of Monroe and Harriman are taking the lead in this annual event in collaboration with local businesses, church, civic and volunteer groups.
We would appreciate your support to instill local pride by sprucing up the local area. The day's effort is important both practically and symbolically, as we clean up a major thoroughfare, we hopefully set a pattern that others will follow and that will carry over into the months ahead.

Operation Clean Sweep is scheduled for the weekend, celebrating Earth Day, further emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment and the natural beauty of our communities. Individuals and groups who cannot join us are encouraged to demonstrate their support by cleaning up in their local area.

This is a great opportunity for any of the youth in our community to participate and who are in need of volunteer hours. We look forward to your support of this important project. Together, we can make a difference.

As I sit home looking out the window while the snow falls I think of all the wonderful things this area has to offer. West Point military academy is a part of American history. Highland Mills, Warwick and Washingtonville offers wineries. Goshen is our county seat with great parks and the Trotting Horse Museum. Central Valley is home to Woodbury Commons, the largest retail outlet in the country. Tuxedo is home to Tuxedo Ridge ski area. Sterling Forest offers miles of hiking trails including the Adirondack Trail that passes through.

Bear Mountain State Park is a great place to hike, camp, fish and have a nice picnic. It is right next to Harriman State Park.

All within one hour of New York City.

Go back in time at Museum Village in Monroe NY,

An Orange County's gem, the village features actual refurbished building from the 1800's. Step into an old time candle store, pharmacy and blacksmith. There is always something happening here. I remember coming here on a school trip from Bergen County.

Lakeside Steakhouse is new to the area. I went with my wife last week and we both had the Cowboy Ribeyes. The steaks were cooked to perfection and there was plenty to take home. Next time we will share one. Dessert and cappuccino followed with complimentary Sambucca. This dinner was as good as any New York City steakhouse, but in our town.

After living in Monroe for 30 years it always amazes me to see so many wonderful people coming out to the Cheese Festival. Rain or shine the entire town comes out to celebrate. Many take part in some way. Volunteers, vendors, dancers and more come to the center of time for a fun day. Monroe Idol is always a big hit giving local talent a place to be heard while entertaining everyone.
