As a lifelong resident of Lake Grove, one of my favorite places is the Smith Haven Mall. They can fulfill many needs at once with the variety of stores and restaurants they have. You can get almost any kind of food and dessert imaginable. If you're looking to make something yourself, Sur La Table offers cooking classes! Large retail stores are available for all ages, genders, needs, and budgets. The mall even opens up early to give people a safe place to walk and get exercise.

I think the best kept secret and one of the better things about this mall is their Ticketmaster booth at guest services. You can purchase tickets to a lot of shows without having to pay the annoying online fee...and you get your tickets right there! Come see for yourself - it is one of the best retail spots on Long Island.

Lake Grove is a wonderful place to live, whether you are a family or a single person, whether you are seniors looking to downsize or someone looking to buy bigger, it is welcoming to all. Lake Grove is considered almost exactly the middle of Long Island making it so easy to get to either coast, north or south shore, or travel into the city for a Broadway show, or the Hamptons to soak up some sun and beach time. There is shopping galore including shopping centers with every type of store you could imagine. There are parks, schools, stables, and so much more. Let us not forget the new and vastly upgraded and improved Smithaven Mall, which is over 1,400,000 square feet of retail space. Now that’s a lot of shopping!

Lake Grove sits in both Smithtown and Brookhaven townships, which by the way is where the mall gets its name. Smithton and Brookhaven, hence Smithaven! Two school districts, Middle Country and Sachem are both great.

Real Estate encompasses everything from thermal cottage and old school summer bungalows, to the Colonials and newer Victorians and post moderns. Quite a bit of new construction in Lake Grove, many on large plots of land making Lake Grove country living at its best!

The Smith Haven Mall located in Lake Grove, NY is one of Long Island's largest enclosed regional malls. It consists of 140 stores and restaurants.

Last Sunday, November 2, 2014, it was the host to the third annual Island Harvest fund raising event. The theme for the event was "Touch a Truck", sponsored by Radio stations WBAB and BLI. This event brought out an abundance of trucks in all sizes and functions. There were fire and rescue trucks, big rig construction vehicles, cherry pickers and bucket trucks, military and police vehicles. Surrounded by numerous volunteers to answer questions about the features of the trucks, they also lent a helping hand to those who wanted to take advantage of the opportunity of getting behind the wheel of these vehicles. Let's face it, there are many of us who are still young at heart and always wanted to blow the horn or set off the siren of a fire truck.

One of the goals for the event was to fill a large box truck with donations of food supplies to give to the hungry, unfortunate residents of Long Island. As I passed the truck, I looked in to see that this goal was well underway of being met.
I was told by one of the very friendly and informative Island Harvest volunteers that there are 300,000 people on Long Island that go hungry every day. 100,000 of these residents are children.

Island Harvest is the brain storm of Linda Breitstone who in 1992 correctly surmised that there are too many people who go hungry, and there is too much food that goes to waste. She had a very simple and highly successful plan: go to restaurants and catering facilities and collect the food that is about to go to waste and deliver it to food banks and soup kitchens.
Charity Navigator is a research organization that reports on charities. As of the end of 2012, it has given Island Harvest a rating of 98 percent. One of the highest in the nation! Not only is this a four star rating but they also report that Island Harvest has grown to an annual total revenue base of over 25 million dollars.

I am proud to be active in the real estate market in Lake Grove and wish to point to this event as one of the many reasons that Lake Grove is a great place to live.

The village residents and town trustees take great pride in our many splendid parks throughout Lake Grove. They are all maintain by the incorporated village and are extremely well kept. We have parks with just walking trails. There are parks for the little ones to play in. Some of our parks offer tennis courts, basketball hoops, and baseball fields. Many activities go on at the parks year round. There can be a Harvest Fest, Car Show, Flower Sale, Halloween Festival, Softball tournament, etc. All parks close at dusk.

The Village has a lot to offer. It's a great family friendly, desirable neighborhood with much to do. You can enjoy the well-kept playgrounds and walking trails in the parks. There are also special holiday events and picnics held year-round at the parks and the town hall recreation room. They offer a wonderful summer camp program for the residents. In June, July, and August there are summer concerts outside on the Green at the Lake Grove Village Town Hall. There is always something to do!
