If you're looking for a quiet walk in the woods on your lunch break, check out Butternut Creek Trail. It is off Kinne Road between 481 and Lyndon Road with parking at the trail head or at Wegmans if you wish to enter from Genesee Street. The trail offers a paved winding trail along Butternut Creek with informative trail markers and memorial benches placed by the Dewitt Rotary in case you need to take a few minutes to respond to your text messages or to make a call. The brand new observation deck over looking the creek is at the north end of the trail. For the more ambitious walkers, you can continue the additional nine miles south of Genesee Street toward Jamesville. In the "best kept secret" category, be sure to check it out!
  • The annual craft festival sponsored by the Rochester Craft Guild will be held on the first weekend of November at the Dewitt Community Church on Erie Bld. There are many fine handcrafts made from local materials by local artists. The guild has been in operation for over 50 years and has many talented artists from potters to woodworkers to textile artists. What a great way to kick off the holiday shopping season!
  • One of the many great things about the people of Central New York is we love animals! There is no community more pet-loving, and no area more pet-friendly. Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in Dewitt is living proof of this. Shelters from all over the U.S. send animals to HHDR regularly because they have no room for the abundance of abandoned and unwanted animals out there and they know HHDR will help them find good “furever homes”! If you are in the area, stop by on October 5, 2014, for the fourth annual Pumpkins & Pooches event. Bring your furry friends in costume if you want, or meet some of the dogs available for adoption. This is a not-to-be-missed event for the whole family, two legs or four!
  • The Old Erie Canal State Historic Park. The park covers about 36 miles of the original Erie Canal tow path. This level trail begins at a park at Butternut Creek in the town of Dewitt east of Syracuse and extends almost to the city of Rome, NY, meandering through or near Fayetteville, Manlius Center, Kirkville, Chittenango and Canastota in the Central New York area with stops along the way for rest and picnics.

The path has been resurfaced with stone dust and is perfect for biking, hiking, horseback riding or snowmobiling. The canal waterway provides boating in canoe or kayak for some segments throughout the park. This beautiful park is part of the New York State Park system.

Looking forward to the balloon fest this weekend! Hope to see you there. It should be lots of fun.
  • The Dewitt Rotary Club does it again! We had loads of fun, and ate loads of pancakes (plain, blueberry or M&M) at the annual all-you-can-eat fundraiser. What a great cause, and a great community turnout!
