The Buffalo History Museum, originally known as the Buffalo Historical Society, is located in the heart of Delaware Park, near the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Buffalo State College. One of the permanent buildings from the Pan-American Exposition of 1901, it is worth a visit for that fact alone! Inside you'll find many interesting artifacts from the assassination of our then President William McKinley by anarchist Leon Czolgosz, including the blood-stained handkerchief in which he concealed his weapon. He died several days later, not of his wound but gangrene which set in as a result of the poor sterilization techniques of the time.

Highlights of the museum are replicas of an Iroquois longhouse and village, the famous Apostolic clock chiming hourly, a model of the original grain elevator invented here by Joseph Dart, and original murals of America's early explorers. The lower level has "old Buffalo" shops, homesteads, fire equipment, modes of transportation and more! Don't miss this window into Buffalo's past!
