    As a child, I spent many days at Horseshoe Lake. I learned how to swim with the recreational program, spent hours building sandcastles on the beach... and that was long ago. Now as a parent, I cheer my children on as they swim for the Roxbury Racers, one of the two swim teams in Roxbury Township. Coached by a former racer, the team now consists of over 180 swimmers, junior and senior coaches, and alumni. Team members try out in mid-June and consist of children from kindergarten graduates to high school seniors. The team spirit and comradery is bar-none.

    If you're looking for a great place to learn to how swim, Roxbury Recreation will assist you in registering for swim lessons. As a member of Horseshoe Lake, you can register for one, two, or multiple week swim lessons from beginner to intermediate. Once you're done swimming, enjoy the lake, slides, diving boards, volleyball area, and of course snack stand. Members can also borrow a kayak or paddle boat to enjoy the lake by boat.

    Last year, two township mothers, along with a committee and local volunteers created sprinklers to keep you cool during the hot summer days. It was a welcome attribute to this beautiful park. Roxbury Recreation also creates movie nights, late night swims, and evening events to bring the community together throughout the year.

    Roxbury's Many Outdoor Delights
    Roxbury, in Morris County, has tons of outdoor recreational venues for anybody who wants to run, play, or just enjoy the beauty of nature. Just in Roxbury alone, there are more than a dozen parks!

    If you love nature walks (or runs), Roxbury is a great place to look. The Black River Park (Main Street in Succasunna) has a one mile dirt trail that's great for enjoying nature, or watching beavers build a dam in the Black River itself! The West Morris Greenway path, located near the Roxbury day care center, is a more level path that's great for biking and is a three mile round trip.

    The Horseshoe Lake area is a lovely venue with a secluded beach available in the spring and summertime. There's fishing and canoeing on the lake itself, walking and bike paths around it, and a picnic area. There's also public volleyball and basketball courts. And who doesn't love a swim in a lake on a warm summer day?

    Poets Peak is a desirable subdivision located in Roxbury Township. Most streets are named after our famous poets. The development consists of 300 homes including many cul de sacs. Conveniently located just minutes from major highways, schools and shopping. I have lived in Poets Peak for 14 years. It is a beautiful community.

    Spring Frogs
    One of my nicest memories as a kid was laying in bed on a summer night with the windows open listening to the crickets and tree frogs. Today I was driving back from an appointment in Wharton to Mount Arlington and I passed a swampy patch of woods. The frogs have come out for spring and they were singing quite the chorus.

    The food at Mikzuki Asian Fusion Hibachi Resturant is delicious and that is saying a lot from a person like me who does not like typical "Chinese food." I had the volcano roll as an appetizer and Thai chicken fried rice with pineapple. So yummy. The restaurant is clean and has a fun atmosphere. Mikzuki is located at 1033 US 46 in Ledgewood, NJ.

    Drawdown of Lake Hopatcong
    It is the drawdown year on Lake Hopatcong. Every five years the lake is lowered 60 inches starting in late September, By November the lake level is at its lowest. The Lake Hopatcong Foundation is coordinating a lake-wide clean up on Nov. 9th with a host of .volunteers venturing onto 30 lakefront access points located around the lake. The clean-up will begin on most of the shallow coves and shorelines. This is a multi-community effort.     Come Yumm Come all!! If You are an ice cream fan and you are a Morris County resident or a boater on Lake Hopatcong or live in Roxbury, Hopatcong, Wharton or Mine Hill you probably already know about CLIFFS ICE CREAM. If you don't, well you are missing out!! Absolutely the BEST homemade ice cream anywhere. Long lines with happy ice cream eaters are present well into the fall and some die hard CLIFFS fans even into the winter months. Yes that's right...Ice cream so good people buy it from the stand in the winter!! CLIFFS has been there serving up its creamy cold goodness since March of 1975. It was started by a fellow by the name of Cliff Freund, an ice cream salesman, a retail businesses operator, and a teacher at Roxbury High School. In the following years he has won many awards for his fabulous flavors some of the awards were given for flavors like Sticky Bun, Desert Silk and Graham Central Station. In 2006, they won second and third place for their Peach Melba and Holy Cannoli flavors. Cliff's was even featured on The Food Network's program in 2004..winning TOP 5. It is located @ 1475 Route 46 Ledgewood, NJ 07852. Within one mile of Routes 10, 80 and 206! So even if you're not a local its worth the trip! There are picnic tables to enjoy your tasty treat so check it out!! It may even convince you to become a local and move to the area!
