Whenever I visit or drive by Johnson Park it brings me back to my childhood. It was a staple for me during my younger years so I have numerous fond memories here. The park has evolved since I was kid. There are tennis courts, baseball fields, open fields, a small zoo of rescued animals, playgrounds, walking/jogging/biking paths, BBQ pits and plenty of picnic areas. The park is located close to the heart of New Brunswick and lies on the western side of the mighty Raritan River. There are different runs held in the park each year. Running through the park offers a taste of nature and breathtaking views of the Raritan River. Just be sure to avoid the hissing geese!
If you enjoy history, there is also the “East Jersey Olde Towne” village at one end of the park. Here there are old school buildings maintained and recreated. You can walk through the grounds and buildings. There are also guided tours available. Johnson Park is a great place to spend a lunch break, date, and have great day!
