    Looking for something to do in the Netcong area? If you love music, there's lots of chances to catch visiting acts. Chubby Checker will be at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on 10/16/15. Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (the guitarist from the Misfits) will be rocking out at the Stanhope House in neighboring Stanhope. Ed Kowalczyk, former lead singer of Live (and now a solo artist) will feature hits from his solo career and band days at the Newton Theater in Newton. And that's all in the same week in October!

    If you'd rather get out and enjoy the great outdoors, the Netcong area has lots of public parks with walking/running trails. This area of Morris County is just east of the Appalachian trail. In Netcong itself, there's DiRenzo Park off of Dell Road, the site of the summertime "Concerts in the Park" live band performances on Fridays. It's got a cute little gazebo picnic area with a nice view of the water. Musconetcong State Park has a serene, glacier-fed lake that offers picturesque hiking trails and cabins in the park for those who want an overnight camping experience. Anything you could want to do in water can be found at Hopatcong State Park, where Lake Hopatcong is the local attraction for fishing, swimming, and boating.

    Can you say Peter Pan, Shrek and Rudolph the red nosed Reindeer? If you can you would be talking about a few of the shows from the 2013/2014 season at the Growing Stage. Fun for the whole family. This is off off off Broadway type musical delights without the Broadway prices, traffic, tolls and parking. Just a delight to see the little ones smile and be entertained with wholesome entertainment Now called the Palace theater this is a non-profit professional performing arts center. The theater was built in 1919 and has been an entertainment landmark for over 50 years. Originally a silent movie and vaudeville house, it eventually featured talking movies, minstrel shows and other live entertainment. In the mid 1930's the theater was graced by The Hopatcong Broadway Players. This was a summer troupe of nationally known actors, from NYC as well as directors & writers who vacationed at Lake Hopatcong, Stars such as Bert Lytell, Celeste Holm and Gale Sondergaard were among the actors who appeared on the Palace stage as the troupe tried out theatrical productions before taking them onto Broadway. If you live in Morris County and want to do something fun with the kids you will not be disappointed by the modern day productions. Check it out tickets are $15 Friday nights and $20 for adults on Saturdays $ 15 for kids.

  • Decorate your home with lots of lights to be a contender in this contest. There is no need to enter, just have your house, apartment or business decorated by December 15th. This contest happens yearly. Gift cards will be awarded for first, second and third place.
  • Come and enjoy Netcong's annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting. There are decorated municipal vehicles, floats with holiday lights and a special guest at the end of the parade. The parade begins at 5:00 p.m. with tree lighting immediately following. This year it is on Dec. 1. The parade begins on Allen Street and College Road. It will cross over Route 183 onto Main Street then onto Maple Avenue. It ends at the fire house on Maple. To find out more go to www.netcong.org/recreation.

    Netcong is a small village located in Morris County, bordering Stanhope, Mt Olive, & Roxbury Township. Netcong has a small town quaint, vintage feeling, The town hosts a wide array of vintage colonial homes, A historic main street with local shopping, a weekend farmer's market, as well as a NJ Transit train station. In addition to train service, the town hosts daily bus service as well. Major roadways are Route 80, 46, & 206; therefore, location and ease of commuting has become one of the towns major attributes. The town consists of 0.917 square miles, of which 0.073 sq miles consists of water known as Lake Musconetcong which was named by the Lenape Native Americans. Meaning "Grass Creek," Lake Musconetcong was part of the Morris Canal in 1831. Some say there are still remnants of the canal in the lake. Today the lake provides activities such as boating, fishing, ice skating and bird watching.

    Netcong has also long been home to the Palace Theater, which was built in 1919 and was an entertainment landmark for over 50 years. Originally a silent movie and Vaudeville house, it later featured talking movies, local high school plays, and graduations. In 1995, the Palace Theater was purchased by the Growing Stage with the intention to restore the theater back to its original grandeur and beauty, and over the last 18 years, that is exactly what they have done. As of 2012, the company has raised and re-invested over 2 million dollars in the project. The Growing Stage is the only children's theater in New Jersey that owns and operates their own building. The Growing Stage is a must for young and old !!!!

Treat yourself to some of the more popular dishes like fresh mozzarella en carozza, calamari and gamberi (shrimp), Italian hot dogs, chicken and broccoli rabe, eggplant parmigiana, meatball parmigiana and the already famous muffalatta (an Italian sub served on an 8-inch round roll made with imported citterio meat), prosciutto di parma, capocolla, mortadella, Genoa salami, provolone and Maria's own spicy olive salad mix.
