If you haven't heard it on the news yet, real estate sales are in full bloom! One of the brightest spots in Morris County is Mount Olive Township, which encompasses Flanders, Budd Lake, and a portion of Long Valley. Aside from the plenty of recreational activity that can be found and the award winning school system, "MO" as the locals call it, is bountiful in its diversity. That brings some of the best local eateries.

A staple in town has always been the Budd Lake Diner with its friendly staff and hands on owners to the wide range of pizzerias including Branda's, Enzo's and Valentino's, all with their own special niches. But the choices don't stop there! We have Adam's Family Restaurant that serves American traditional, Wasabi's Japanese and Sushi, three Chinese restaurants including China Thai, then Istanbul Cuisine for Mediterranean, Taste of India that has a lunch buffet that is phenomenal, Churrascaria serving Brazilian and Portuguese, or finally The Corner Pub for pub foods and spirits. Atop all that we have quick and easy with Subway, McDonald's, Wendy's Applebee's, Longhorn and several Dunkin' Donuts.

The long and short is that much like its citizens, our eateries are diverse and your taste buds will thank you for it!

Mount Olive had a great turnout at many of the township's recreation events this year. Mayor Rob Greenbaum, Recreation Director Jill Daggon, and the Mount Olive Recreation Department have managed to create a slate of events that have grown greatly in popularity while costing little (most are free).

In January, a "Frozen" themed, catered lunch held at the Senior Center at Flanders-Drakestown Road drew 200 children and adults. There were games and a singalong of the highly popular movie soundtrack. The "Cabin Fever Reliever" event at the same location in February did even better, drawing 1,200 people for games and activities hosted by the U.S. Sports Institute.

Turkey Brook Park serves as the locale of choice for warmer weather events. In April, a 5K run brought out 600 runners in tie dye, the "Do or Dye" run. In May, the Fairy/Pirate Festival, drew over 4,000 for treasure hunts and food from over 30 local vendors. June brings the "Raiders of the Lost Park", a favorite event among outdoors enthusiasts where runners trudge over trails and obstacles in an Ironman-style event.

During the summer, the year's biggest event is held in June, the Mount Olive Carnival. Over 10,000 participants last year enjoyed live music and food from the area's best. In July, the Movies in the Park program brought back the outdoor movie experience to Turkey Brook Park. If you haven't ever seen a movie outside, it's way better than being in a theater when the weather's nice!

The summer's last event in August, the Food Trucks and Fireworks event with live music and a fireworks show at night, saw 12,000 people come out and celebrate. That's way more than what was expected. The attendance from all the year's events totaled well over 30,000, which is higher than the population of Mount Olive itself! With just about one event every month of the year, there's always something to celebrate in Mount Olive.

If you grew up in northern NJ like I did, when your family went for a weekend ride in "the country", they often headed west, be it for ice cream in the summer, leaf peeping in the autumn, a hint of spring across the hills, antiquing, or just a scenic ride to parts unknown. We have it all! A drive along Routes 80, 206, 46 or 287 will bring you to loads of scenic spots and wonderful communities.
