So here is why I think Lawrence Township (sometimes called Lawrenceville, but they really are a bit different -- will explain in another Insight Submission) is still one of the best places to live in Mercer County:

    1. Taxes, taxes, taxes - the taxes are so very reasonable compared to almost every town surrounding it. A gem in this regard.
    2. A diverse mix of housing stock - whether you are looking for a condo, townhome, active adult home, or single family home, Lawrence has plenty to offer in all of these categories. You can literally start out in an Eagles Chase townhome, move up to a spacious Woodmont semi-attached home, continue on to Lawrenceville Green for your single family residence experience, and then end up in The Gatherings when you reach your senior years. Prices ranging from the low $200,000s to the high $900,000s or more, the variety of housing options is outstanding. All without every leaving the Township.
    3. Schools are not the highest rated, but they are darn good -- The elementary schools are roundly praised. And if you do well in the high school, you can get into the top universities and colleges. Ask the parents who live here and the teachers who teach in the schools. They will tell you. I think the school system in many ways is under appreciated.
    4. Near to major transportation -- Not only are you close to Routes 295 and 1, but you are minutes from the Hamilton Train Station or Princeton Junction Train (depending on which side of Route 1 you happen to live on.)
    5. Close to shopping and great restaurants - Costco is in Lawrence Township, as is the Quakerbridge Mall. And there are other smaller malls like Mercer Mall to delight your shopping needs. Try out Acacia on Main Street for a wonderful Saturday night gourmet meal!
    6. Lots of fun things to do - like the Halloween parade every year, the Trenton and Lawrenceville Farmers ' Markets, the Lawrenceville Arts Center, Lawrenceville Township National Night Out, etc., etc.
    7. Great history - Lawrence Township was founded in 1797, originally called Maidenhead by the Quaker settlers who founded it. The name changed in 1816 to honor Captain James Lawrence, Commander of the Chesapeake and a naval hero of the War of 1812. Most interesting, Lawrence was originally part of Burlington County, then became a part of Hunterdon County, and then in 1838, became a part of the newly established Mercer County.
    8. Finally, Lawrence Township is a pretty place to live -- filled with tree-lined streets, parks, recreational areas and lovely homes. I love the drive down Route 206 (Main) into the heart of Town from Princeton. Always a wonderful, calming drive, even with a bit of traffic!
Come visit Lawrence and see for yourself!
