Interlaken Area Insight

  • By now many home owners and future home owners have discovered the tree-lined streets and very low tax structure of Interlaken to be very appealing. The residents have the "friendly" but not "in your face" acquaintanceship solidly down. Each morning, many residents (and many local neighbors from adjoining towns) that stroll or bike around town are greeted by others doing the same. Everyone offers a friendly eye contact "good morning" or the head nod 'morning. So, as I have said before the idyllic nature of Interlaken is hard to beat.

One thing was missing for many households or home-buyers wish lists...schools. When private schools were plentiful, it was easy to find a school to send our darlings to for a fine education. Using Asbury Park as the "named" receiving school system many residents simply sent their children to private school and enjoyed the very low taxes as the perk.

Well, those days are over. One reason is due to the closing of many of the fine private schools in and around our area. The town council has worked out an arrangement with the West Long Branch School system. Again, not having to maintain a school system for a very small community, saving thousands of dollars for the homeowners taxes per year.

Having a dependable school system is new to all of us residents. Many long time homeowners have decided now would be a great time to sell. Many homes in town have 4 or more bedrooms, providing a new reason to buy/sell with an appeal to a wider range of buyers. Why not...it might be the best time to move on, while demand is being discovered.

Buyers looking to jump in, before the prices go up are now looking at Interlaken with more than just desire to live in such an idyllic town setting . Other residents are excited for families to start moving in... some homeowners with little ones, that already live in Interlaken are already excited and are looking for many more friends to play with in town!
  • Interlaken is an idyllic town. It is so close to the beach, you can walk to it! Also, it is far enough away that Sandy's ocean wave action did not harm a home. This is a TREE CITY and has been for 25 years, which is obvious as one walks in the shade of the mature trees found lining the streets. Drive down Fernmere from Wickepecko to see this for yourself or stroll the wide sidewalks or streets under a canopy of mature trees shading the way. The homes shout "Pride of Ownership" as each garden or home shows a different era or style, all dressed in the seasons' best natural beauty. Interlaken has greener grass - this to me is undeniable. For the literal, the lawns are green April through July and a little brownish August to March and beautiful to me year round.

Comprised mostly of single family homes, with the majority owner occupied year round, diverse architectural styles makes this desirable town a favorite for the knowledgeable buyer. The last time I checked, Interlaken had one of the lowest tax rates in Monmouth County, because Interlaken does not have to support a school district. Interlaken sends its students to local school districts and shares its police department with the town of Deal. Interlaken is bordered by Deal Lake and near Historic Ocean Grove and Asbury Park.
