RE/MAX INTERNATIONAL TO ACQUIRE RE/MAX CAROLINA REGION

(Denver, Colo., April 24, 2007) - An agreement has been reached for RE/MAX International of Denver to purchase the independently owned RE/MAX Carolina region. The acquisition will represent an addition of 170 offices and nearly 3700 agents to the RE/MAX company owned regions. Combined with the recent acquisition of RE/MAX of California & Hawaii, and the pending acquisition of RE/MAX of Florida, 2007 will mark the single greatest year of growth for RE/MAX company owned regions.

Don Hachenberger and Glenda Hachenberger, and Bob McWaters, the current owners of RE/MAX Carolina, have signed a purchase agreement, and transfer of the region is expected to be concluded by early June. Bob McWaters said, “This change in ownership is a positive move. It’s the right move at the right time. No one in real estate has more experience operating a region than RE/MAX International. They’ll be able to provide tremendous resources to our brokers and agents in the Carolinas.”

“We have enjoyed working with Don, Glenda, and Bob for more than 30 years,” said Dave Liniger, Chairman and Co-Founder of RE/MAX International. “They have achieved so many great accomplishments in North and South Carolina, and have built a very impressive organization. They were our 2006 Region of the Year. Personally, I admire their hard work and appreciate their dedication to RE/MAX. Our hope is to continue building upon their solid foundation.”

With his son Brad, McWaters also owns and operates a multi-office brokerage, RE/MAX Coastal Properties, in and around Wilmington, NC. McWaters plans to stay active in real estate and continue to work in his Wilmington offices.

RE/MAX Carolina will become part of the existing RE/MAX Central Atlantic region, with Kerron Stokes as Regional Vice President. Stokes has been with RE/MAX International since 2002, was named Regional Vice President in 2005 and assigned to RE/MAX Central Atlantic in 2006.

McWaters reminisces, “Twenty one years ago we brought the RE/MAX name to the Carolinas and built this region from the bottom up. It’s hard to let go, but the time has come and I’m certain that RE/MAX International will provide for even more growth in the future.”
