Released by Long Drivers of America
(Roanoke, TX., September 29, 2006) - Long Drivers of America (LDA) announced today the Celebrity Long Drive Charity Event Presented by American Airlines will be among the highlights of the upcoming 2006 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the premier event in power golf.
The celebrity long drive event, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, at The Palms GC in Mesquite, Nevada, benefits Children’s Miracle Network and also gives sports fans the opportunity to win prizes, courtesy of American Airlines. Scheduled to appear are such notables from sports and entertainment as Roger Clemens, Rick Barry, Wade Boggs, Shawn Bradley, Bill Engvall, Richard Karn, Bo Jackson and Gabrielle Reece. Celebrities will be teamed with elite long drive professionals during the event and will launch three drives each toward the RE/MAX championship grid. Should a celebrity’s drive come to rest in one of eight special American Airlines scoring zones, located between 240 and 290 yards, roundtrip coach tickets for two to any American Airlines destination worldwide will be awarded to Children’s Miracle Network.
Fans can also participate by registering online at www.longdrivers.com. A random drawing of the names of eligible contestants (must be 18 and over, residents of the 50 states or the District of Columbia) will be conducted immediately before the event. Contestants whose names are drawn will be paired with one celebrity long driver; if the celebrity’s drive finds an American Airlines scoring zone, the contestant will also receive two roundtrip coach tickets to any American Airlines destination worldwide. Registration at www.longdrivers.com ends on October 26, immediately prior to the event. Winners will be announced December 24 on the ESPN telecast. Tickets must be used by December 15, 2007.
“We know many of our customers play and are passionate about the game of golf. This is a great way to involve our customers in a fun and spectacular event and benefit a worthwhile charity at the same time,” said Jay Pearson, Manager of National Sales Promotions for American Airlines.
“Children’s Miracle Network is excited to be partnering with Long Drivers of America for this exciting event with world-class athletes,” said Rod Hamson, Children’s Miracle Network managing director. “We look forward to a long-term partnership with LDA that will benefit 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals throughout North America.”
