The Warrior One's History

Warrior One, a Hummer H1, served CNN journalists embedded with a U.S. Marine Corps infantry battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Its news crew reported on coalition forces in the opening push from Kuwait to Baghdad in March and April 2003.
RE/MAX International Co-Founders Dave and Gail Liniger, in support of Fisher House and in appreciation of Warrior One's history and artwork, bought the H1 in 2007 with a bid of $1 million at the 36th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Ariz. Competing bidder Dave Ressler, owner of car dealerships in North Dakota and Montana, contributed an additional $250,000. The entire $1.25 million went directly to Fisher House.
The "CNN Warrior One" RE/MAX Tour for the Troops furthers the spirit of the Warrior One story, generating increased awareness and support for two foundations with complementary missions.
Story Captured in Art
In 2007, CNN auctioned the vehicle to benefit the Fisher House Foundation, which provides housing to families of hospitalized service members across the U.S. But first, The Learning Channel (TLC) television show "Overhaulin'" customized the vehicle. The highlight: Expert airbrush artists covered the Hummer with images from its mission in Iraq.
The "Overhaulin'" team, led by designer Chip Foose, looked through 400 photographs from Warrior One's time in Iraq to choose scenes for the vehicle.
Scenes include a sleeping bag painted on the hood to represent the prime sleeping spot - off the desert floor, away from the scorpions and camel spiders. Another depicts a service member reading a letter from home, and an orbiting satellite appears on the vehicle's roof.
