Trader Joe's in Pittsford Plaza is more than just a grocery store. It is an experience. When you walk through the door you are greeted by extremely affordable, beautiful flower bouquets in trendy galvanized buckets. The employees in their Hawaiian shirts are friendly, fun and go out of their way to be helpful. My favorite part of the Trader Joe's experience is their tasting corner. I love food!

They feature a different product each day and have complimentary coffee and juice. Find something in the store and wonder what it tastes like? They will gladly open the package and offer you a sample on the spot. Their products are high quality, fresh and affordable. Don't forget to grab yourself some flowers.

This Memorial Day weekend in Pittsford was booming with activity from the Pittsford Regatta races on the canal and Beer & Wine Festival to the Memorial Day Parade and festivities on Monday. Thousands came out and about walking, running, riding bikes, with dogs, and strollers enjoying some fabulous weather and all Pittsford has to offer. I wonder how many ice cream cones were served up! Pittsford really knows how to take advantage of the warmer months and put on tons of fun and exciting events from spring to fall.

If you are a Baby-Boomer and grew up on the eastside of Monroe County, you might know there was a private airport off Marsh Road south of White Haven Memorial Park. This would have been prior to 1965.

It had a grass runway and in 1966 when a subdivision was built on the site, the road into it from Marsh Road was call Kitty Hawk Drive. Another interesting fact is that it is in both the towns of Pittsford and Perinton. Over the past five decades trees have sprung up to a large size and it is hard to recognize that it even could have existed there at one time.

Cartersville was known as a place along the Erie Canal near East Street during the shipping and barges era. It was a place where the horses were changed that were pulling the barges on the Towpath trail. Now all that is left to remind us of this activity is a plaque near 4 East Street. The towpath trail is now used by walkers, hikers and bicycles. The canal is now used for pleasure boating.

Stop in to the Pittsford Dairy for one of the many flavors of their delicious homemade ice cream. the Cookies & Cream is a must-try! They also have frozen custard and an on-site bakery, along with some limited fresh grocery and specialty items. Pick up a few old-style glass jugs of their own fresh dairy milk and even a quart of their ice cream packaged to go!

Still a working farm, the rich history of the dairy dates back to the early 1800's. The new Pittsford Dairy store was built in 2009 and is a great place to walk from surrounding Schoen Place and Pittsford Village or to swing by on the way home from work. Plenty of parking.

Wendell Castle designed and created a staircase hand-carved from laminated solid walnut for the headquarters of the Gannett Corporation in the Lincoln First Tower in downtown Rochester.

After they relocated out of Rochester, Ted Spall purchased the staircase and featured it in one of his office buildings in the Grove Street Office Complex. There is a plaque on the wall at the bottom of the staircase telling the history of the staircase and the artist.

If you have been around Pittsford for the past 40 years, you will remember going to the Depot or The Other Side of the Tracks to hear Chuck and Gap Mangione. These two places were some of their favorite hangouts!

Today, neither of these two bar nightclubs exist. Instead, you will find the Five-Star Delmonte Inn and the Spa at the Delmonte Inn. The historic railroad depot has been beautifully worked into the new architecture to preserve its original exterior look.

The Pittsford Pub, just past Schoen Place, is the perfect spot for a drink and a hearty meal. The friendly service and convenient location make Pittsford Pub a town favorite. I recently held a team lunch at Pittsford Pub. We all ordered burgers and we were very impressed. The burgers were delicious and the sweet potato fries were exceptionally good. They are revamping their menu to include a wider range of options. There are healthy alternatives to the traditional "pub food" including hummus plates, wraps, and more. Over the next two months they are renovating the building, but it will be a must-see when it's all done!

As summer comes to an end, Powers Farm Market gets ready for my favorite season - fall! With its wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, Powers is great for summertime as well. However, their autumn setup is a crowd favorite. They have a wide selection of pumpkins for carving and painting, not to mention haunted house teepees to get kids in the Halloween spirit. On top of this, Powers offers haunted hay rides through the woods and a small petting zoo for the younger children! The food at Powers is worth the trip alone - caramel apples, apple cider, homemade donuts, candies, pies, and more! It's the perfect place to bring in the fall season and spend some quality time with family and friends. Make a trip to Powers Farm Market this season and it could become a yearly tradition for you too.

Mario's in Pittsford is a great place for a nice family meal. It's traditional Italian style and decor provide a charming atmosphere for any occasion. My favorite option at Mario's is the Sunday Brunch. For a flat rate, one can have all of the delicious breakfast and Italian cuisine that he or she desires. It is a great deal and there are endless options. There are made-to-order omelets, eggs benedict, various meat and pasta options, a dessert display, and not to mention a huge chocolate fountain surrounded by fruit. Mimosas and Bloody Mary's are on the menu as well. All of this makes Mario's an ideal place for any craving and a perfect option for a large Sunday Brunch. Mario's has been awarded "Best Brunch in Rochester" countless times and the friendly family atmosphere will have you coming back as a regular!

Right in the heart of Pittsford is the beautiful Pittsford Farms Dairy. They have been processing and bottling their milk on-site for over 50 years. Pittsford Farms is one of the few New York dairies that still uses glass bottles. When you walk into their store that resembles a gorgeous old barn, you are greeted by the scrumptious smells of baked goods. Their homemade ice cream and custard is not to be missed. It is a charming place to grab some dessert and don't forget their famous glass bottled milk. You won't be disappointed!

I have been going to the Coal Tower with my family for many years. This classic restaurant is a great place for a diner-style meal. I personally love to go to the Coal Tower for breakfast, with its many options including eggs, omelets, pancakes, french toast, and more. It's also a good choice when craving a cheeseburger because they offer many variations of the classic American burger. Of course, in Rochester fashion, the Coal Tower has a full section on their menu for hot dogs which can be spiced up with the Coal Tower world famous hot sauce!

This building serves as a historical site for Pittsford in that it was originally coal storage for the boats on the Erie Canal. The Village Coal Tower has been a town favorite in Pittsford since 1976 when it was first opened and doesn't seem to be losing its popularity anytime soon. Grab a bite at the Coal Tower and enjoy the historic charm of the village of Pittsford!
