    Hauppauge, NY
One of the first things that you learn living on Long Island is our strong ties to the past. You learn to pronounce the strange names which are deep rooted in our Native American Heritage. Names such as Manhasset, Massapequa, and Poquott. Hauppauge is one of these names.

Hauppauge is a hamlet. A hamlet is a geographic area which is unincorporated. In the case of Hauppauge, it is split between two towns, Islip and Smithtown. There are many reasons Hauppauge is a great place to live. It enjoys the benefits of having one of the largest industrial parks in the United States. This provides the residents with one of the lowest residential tax rates on Long Island. The industrial park generates substantial income for the Hauppauge School District making it very highly rated and desirable.

However, I would like to point out another reason that I am proud to be associated with Hauppauge. On the grounds of H. Lee Dennison Suffolk County Executive Building, there is a Memorial Park that recognizes often over looked American heroes. It is named the "Armed Forces Plaza". There you can find the following monuments:

-- A monument honoring those who fought in the Korean War, 1950-1953.
-- A monument honoring those who served at "The Chosin Reservoir", North Korea. November - December 1950.
-- A monument honoring those who served in the Persian Gulf and Middle East Wars 1990-
-- A monument honoring those who fought in the Vietnam War. 1961-1975
-- A monument honoring the role of women serving in the Armed Forces.
-- A monument recognizing "Gold Star" families who have lost sons and daughters in service to their country.
-- The "Garden of Remembrance " honoring residents of Suffolk county who tragically lost their lives in the attack on the World Trade Center.
-- Last but not least, a monument recognizing the role of War Dogs.

It is with humble admiration that I work in the Hamlet of Hauppauge and I can bring to your attention this very important Memorial Park. Please visit it at your earliest convince and honor these heroes.
