I had a great time visiting the Annual Fourth of July Pet Show in Cornwall yesterday morning. Despite the heat, many families were out with their pets and seemed to have a wonderful time. I saw many different pets that people entered in the show, from geckos and birds, to cats and dogs. Some pets were dressed in creative costumes and others had decorated cages. Children and their pets win awards such as "best name" or "most creative costume" and receive a medal at the end of the show. A great time was had by all at this years show - congratulations to all the winners!

The weather doesn't feel much like fall as summer is luckily still lingering. Yet it's that time of year again for the annual Fall Festival on Main Street in Cornwall. Come out to enjoy sweet treats, live music and local vendors.

Today marks the 63rd opening day for Cornwall NY Little League. The Village Hall parking lot fills with athletes of all ages dressed in their fresh new uniforms ready to start the season. Banners with team names and players are proudly displayed as the teams march down Main Street and up Rings Pond to reach the ceremonial field. The bleachers fill with neighbors, friends and familiar faces. New friendships are forged as parents introduce themselves to one another as fellow team parents. Cornwall families chatter about the wind and cold temperatures as the excitement builds and the players step off to begin the ceremonies. Teams fill the field as local representatives and familiar volunteers are acknowledged. The Cornwall Middle School Select Chorus officially start with the singing of the National Anthem. As a town that takes pride in their community and their children's activities the entire field and stands concludes opening day by singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"! Now let’s play ball.

With a recent movement in our country to support local businesses and American made products, I found an exciting new company right here in Orange County in Cornwall called Farm to Fashion! They carry a beautiful collection of quality handmade crocheted scarves, pillows and throws with wonderful designs and themes. All products are American made with natural fibers and eco-cotton by local independent farmers, craftsman and designers. I purchased a colorful teal green and blue hue throw with a unique design from the Karma Mama Collection made with recycled Eco cotton. A beautiful addition to my sun room. I welcome you to visit their website farm2fashion.net.

The Maplehurst Inn is an 18 unit rooming house in Cornwall, NY. Located at 76 Willow Avenue, the Maplehurst Inn is owned by Richard and Kathleen Dunphy. The Maplehurst Inn occupies a 3.1 acre parcel of land at the corner of Mailler Avenue and Willow Avenue in the center of town. The property was listed for sale on 1/19/12 for $1,200,000.00. On Dec. 7th, the streets of Cornwall will be more festive than usual. From 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., there will be holiday magic in the air! Come enjoy carriage rides down the beautifully decorated main street. Stop into the charming shops for some local gifts or treats. Caroling will be provided by the sweet voices of local Girl Scouts. At 5:00 p.m. everyone will convene at The Circe for the annual tree lighting. It's quite a feeling to stand shoulder to shoulder with your community all watching the town tree light up for the holidays. "I'm dreaming of a white Thanksgiving?" The highest travel day of the year may be treacherous and dangerous in the Hudson Valley. Please look out for road closures, give plows a safe distance, move parked cars off streets, and be thankful if you already have all your holiday preparations in order and can simply enjoy the picturesque snowy weather from a window inside.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

We have experienced just a sprinkle of snow so far this fall in the Hudson Valley. But those that are eager to get those sleds out and build snowball forts may not have to wait much longer. It looks like we are going to have a "White Thanksgiving!" Six to ten inches of snow are being forecasted. So have an extra piece of Aunt Edna's apple pie and play in the glorious winter wonderland!

Baseball season is over and even the Canadian geese weren't hanging around Rings Pond yesterday with the frigid weather. Yet, the Cornwall Library and Cornwall Town Hall parking lots were full and parking around Rings Pond had the only available spots. Cars were waiting on portions of grass to come available.

All was due to voting day for the Cornwall Library renovation project. The library is proposing a 3.68 million dollar renovation. Judging by the amount of cars maneuvering through the dark gravel roads by the baseball fields and Munger Cottage, Cornwall residents were once again passionate on their position whether it be a "Yes" or "No"!

Candy corn, carved pumpkins, and costumes galore! Cornwall NY doesn't take trick or treating lightly. The fire house features a haunted house "Corn Estate" that folks from around the state come to be "frightened"!

Homestead neighborhood is probably the most popular neighborhood to trick or treat in with residents going as far as making candy apples to hand out. The line at this house is incredible. The streets are filled with families and residents gathering as children run from house to house comparing which house has the best treats and now they know where their teacher lives! The past few years hurricanes and power outages have threatened the festivities, but the Town of Cornwall will not let Mother Nature spoil its fun. Now named number #1 for best town for treat or treating in the USA, Cornwall and Cornwall on Hudson has a title worthy of their efforts.

Today was the Cornwall Color Run/Walk for Cancer. This event is to honor, remember and raise funds for local Cancer patients. The streets of Cornwall looked like a rainbow as each participant was able to choose from an array of colored race day shirts. Great job to all the runners/walkers that came out to support such a worthy cause.
