I am very excited to record an insight about this year's Art Trail in Cazenovia. There are 25 artisans participating throughout the area. On the 3rd and 10th of October, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., artists will open their studios to the community and visitors to provide an opportunity to see where the artist works and purchase fine crafts just in time for gift-giving. I have the privilege of participating in this year's event and will be displaying art quilts at my friend, established jeweler, Susan Machamer's studio on Indian Lookout Rd.

The Barn on Ballina Road in Cazenovia is a great place to look for resale and recycled furniture and décor for your home. The owner and manager, Jean Daly, collects only the finest "cast offs" throughout the area. The huge barn is filled with treasures. Last weekend marked their 50th sale. Watch for signs - only a few more weekends in 2015 before winter sets in.

A new improvement project in the village of Cazenovia is the creation of a community park and trail that will border the Chittenango Creek south of the Red Apple Convenience Market. Project Café has raised money to support the initiative. The village parks department has cleared the area and residents are invited to participate in a clean up at the site on Saturday, August 22nd. The goal is to continue the trail until it connects with the creek walk and eventually Lakeland Park.

As time passes, things change and eventually, what is old is new again. The Industrial Loft offers the latest trend in decorating and home furnishings. The shop owner scours old factories and buildings for industrial tools and metal bases to create some of the best "reclaimed" furniture in the area. If you are looking for that one "Oh, Wow" signature piece you should visit this shop on Albany Street in the village of Cazenovia. You can also follow Mark's works in progress on their Facebook Page - Industrial Loft Cazenovia NY.

In the village of Cazenovia, in the heart of Albany Street there is a diner with some of the best breakfast and lunch food I have ever experienced. It's a throw back to another time with wooden booths and counter with stools. A husband and wife team cooks and delivers the delicious fare. It's an opportunity not to be missed.

One of the best holidays of the year in Cazenovia is the July 4th weekend. There are so many wonderful family oriented events to choose from. Sidewalk sales start on the 2nd and run through the 5th. There is a Teddy Bear Parade on the 3rd at 10:00 a.m., and an action packed day on the 4th itself! For runners, joggers and walkers, there are 5K and 10 mile races around Cazenovia Lake as well as a family fun run. CAVAC hosts an arts and crafts fair on the grounds of Lorenzo. The July 4th parade is at 1:00 p.m. and two bands at Lakeland Park starting at 5:00 p.m. There will be fireworks in the evening. Even the Farmer's Market will be open on the 4th.
It's a weekend to enjoy and cherish and appreciate all the volunteers who make it happen.

The first weekend in February marks the winter celebration in Cazenovia. The three day event includes many outdoor activities and venues. This year's Winter Festival Art Exhibit was hosted by the Cazenovia Public Library and featured the works of many local artists. L.L. Bean's Outdoor Discovery School set up at the historic Lorenzo site and offered snowshoe instruction. Their expert instructors led a Starlight Snowshoe Tour. Students from the high school created extravagant show sculptures with no shortage of building materials this year. With a talent show, a pancake breakfast, a horse drawn carriage ride through the village and the High School Winter Olympics, there was no shortage of outdoor activities to participate in this year.

Four days of winter fun coming up this weekend and it includes something for everyone; children, artists, athletes, families, intellectuals (a scrabble fest), and foodies! New this year is a fab bike race on Sunday, February 8th. Fat bikes are an increasingly popular way to enjoy winter and stay fit during the cold months. They feature wide tires to get through mud, sand, ice and snow. In conjunction with the fat bike race, there will be a free snowshoe demo.

Franklin cars, manufactured for a limited period of time in Syracuse (1902 - 1936) are highly collectible and very interesting to see gathered together on the green at Cazenovia College every August. The H.H. Franklin Club invites owners of these vehicles to get together for an annual club outing in Cazenovia. The event draws a large crowd of enthusiastic car buffs and provides time for these auto owners to swap stories and share adventures. If you love old cars, this is something that should not be missed.

Cazenovia has a long history of supported equestrian endeavors in the Central NY area. Cazenovia College in Cazenovia is one of only a few colleges in the state that offers degrees in Equestrian Studies. Their center, Cazenovia College Equine Education Center on Woodfield in Cazenovia has indoor riding rings, outdoor rings and grass riding fields. They host the Intercollegiate Horse Show and Intercollegiate Dressage shows. In addition, there are several established stables that provide boarding, training and riding lessons. The largest, family owned and operated Canterbury Stables in Fenner, offers boarding, the opportunity to buy or sell your horse, and professional riding instruction.

The village of Cazenovia is home to several locally-owned, non-chain, boutique type shops. One of the newest shops on Albany Street is ARTicles. It is an eclectic offering of all types of "articles" chosen to represent the diversity of the Central New York area. One of a kind items of art, fun and funky jewelry, comfortable, up-scale clothing for men and women and assorted household items are just some of their offerings. It is a wonderful place to find something special for yourself or the perfect gift for that discerning friend or loved one.

Helen McNitt State Park is a recent addition to the parks in Cazenovia. It is located on East Lake Road and was created from land donated to the state. The park has off street parking, 1300 feet of water frontage on Cazenovia Lake, and supplies a port-a-john comfort station. Available for carry in water crafts; like canoes, kayaks, small fishing boats, or paddle boats, it is a great place to fish or plan a paddling outing. This park is also used in the winter for ice-fishing on the lake.

The Cazenovia Public Library houses the Museum of Curiosities. Created with donations from local residents, the museum has a great exhibit of natural curiosities. The most famous is a real Egyptian mummy. It's a pleasant way to enjoy a rainy afternoon in Cazenovia. The library itself offers current and historic books and has a wonderful children's section. My favorite place to check out is the free magazine swap area in the lower level. It provides the opportunity to recycle the magazines I have and pick up a few that I've never seen on the newsstand in the local supermarkets. Just another avenue for educational opportunity.

Just one of many walking trails in the Cazenovia area. The trail begins on Constantine Bridge Rd across from the Transfer Station. Path is on the north side of the small parking lot. The trail is mostly level and a great place to walk, jog, walk your dog, or snow shoe and cross country skiing in the winter. Great fishing too. You can fish for brook trout on the south side of the stream if you take a right at the fork about 1/3 mile in.
