Not only a first for Buffalo but for women's hockey as well, the Buffalo Beauts had their first game ever as part of the Women's National Hockey League. The Beauts are based out of the new Harbor Center located downtown next to Canalside. The team will be playing the full season there which will only add to the new downtown Buffalo attractions.

It's amazing how much the Buffalo waterfront has changed in the last few years. If you haven't checked out the area around Canalside and Harbor Center, now is the time. Where else can you watch free movies in the park on Tuesdays, attend free concerts on Thursdays, and take part in free lawn in table games daily?

Buffalo is more than chicken wings and snow. Yes, we have snow in the winter, but we also have a diverse waterfront with sailboats, kite surfing, swimming and kayaking. We are the home of the original Chicken Wing, but we are also about Farm to Table and Food Truck Rodeos. Buffalo is probably more diverse than you thought!

Watch this video to learn why Buffalo was once one of the best planned cities. Of course, this is before the Thruway and express ways cut off the city from the waterfront. What is being done to bring back about the urban Renaissance that has taken place the last few years? Learn more about the Olmsted Parks, Larkinville, Canalside and the Elmwood Village.

One more to add to the list of why this area is rated high on the scale for "Staycations"! The food at the restaurants in and around Buffalo is absolutely phenomenal. Our dilemma is "Which restaurant should we choose to go to today?"

We are personally categorizing which restaurants have the best what! (i.e. stuffed banana peppers, baked French onion soup, prime rib, salmon, salad, desserts, etc.).

Both my husband and I have found that many times food seems to pale in comparison to back home when we travel away.

Downtown Buffalo is being rebuilt to become a leader in medical technology and teachings. With the presence of Roswell Park Cancer Institute, UB School of Medicine and Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital, there is a new life in that area that once was vacant houses. And now that the jobs are here, the buyers are looking to be here too. Many professionals are looking to be close to work and are buying up these relatively inexpensive houses and condos for the convenience factor. The Buffalo News published a great article about the effects of this area on the local economy this past summer - and showed how the average price per square foot for renting and buying is being affected by this development.

One of Buffalo's newest waterfront developments featuring a new 96 room hotel is nearing completion and is adding to the excitement along Buffalo's Canalside. The new development was the product of redeveloping of the General Donavan State Office Building, affectionately referred to as the "GDSOB". In addition to the hotel and office space anchoring the building, new retail and restaurant space is being added to complement the expanded canals.

Buffalo were not indigenous to this area, although you may see several of these clever, artistic, stationary Buffalo in our area in varying colors and interpretations. Most historians think the city got its name from the French "beau fleuve" used to describe the mighty Niagara River. Early French explorers and Native Americans may have been saying "beautiful river" and it became known as Buffalo, our beautiful city on the Great Lakes!

If you are from Buffalo, you know chicken wings. The best places to try these is undoubtedly the Anchor Bar in Buffalo that originated them. But close rivals are also Duff's (in Amherst, Orchard Park, Depew, Williamsville and Niagara Falls) and the Nine-Eleven Tavern in South Buffalo.
  • Take a look at Larkinsville in Buffalo New York. A wonderful place to be every Wednesday during the summer at Larkinville. There there are bands, there's food, there are drinks and a lot of wonderful people. And you're going to have a blast!

The view is fine from the top of the Perot Malting Elevator in Silo City overlooking the Marine A and the American Elevator. Silo City is a collection of three grain elevators located on Childs Street in Buffalo's old First Ward. While they were built at the turn of the century to feed America, they are currently being used to host a variety of activities including rock climbing, music and art shows.

Welcome to Buffalo! The city has been experiencing incredible growth and rejuvenation in just about every corner of the city. There is a general excitement throughout the area and its relatively low priced housing stock is in high demand. Each neighborhood and area throughout the city has different things to offer. From the waterfront downtown, to the farmers market in the Elmwood Village, to the galleries and pubs in Allentown, to the Hertel strip in North Buffalo. Each one of these areas and more are reinventing themselves and offering something unique to themselves. The housing options offer everything from loft living to high rise condos to grand Victorian to fixer uppers and beyond. Depending on your taste you can find the high energy hustle of big city living, or just minutes away find park-like homes with backyards or shady front porches for lounging.
