    West Windsor Township, NJ
There are several things that draw people to a township. A great school district is one. (West Windsor has that with schools that are consistently rated highly). Open space and recreational areas are another. (West Windsor has that too with Mercer County Park and many scenic landscapes.) Lots of shopping. (West Windsor is blessed with Route 1 shopping on one side and Route 30 shopping on the other.) And then there is the transportation.

What can make a township a real magnet is a transportation hub, and West Windsor and the surrounding areas of Princeton, Plainsboro, Lawrence, Cranbury and South Brunswick, all have the Princeton Junction Train Station to thank for that. Opened in 1987, and jointly owned by New Jersey Transit and Amtrak, this train station serves as a link between New York and Philadelphia, enabling thousands of commuters and others to travel regularly along the Northeast Corridor. Another great reason to live in the area!

West Windsor is mostly made up of flat terrain so there aren't an abundance of hills for sledding in the winter here. But the kids can still have fun (and adults too!) at West Windsor Community Park off of Princeton-Hightstown Road. This 123 acre park features soccer and baseball fields, an aquatic center, trails, a dog park and tennis courts. However, in the winter, the hill at the end of the road into the park is packed with families and kids sledding from its peak!

Way back in 1737, The Schenck family purchased 6,000 acres of land from William Penn's heirs in what is now West Windsor. That land was eventually divided among family and in 1899 John Schenck Purchased 122 acres now known as the Schenk Farmstead. This is now owned by the Township and is the Historical Museum of West Windsor. The museum consists of a barn, carriage house, school house and farm house, The barn is an interesting example of Dutch-English style barn architecture in which no nails are used in the construction and all the wood is cut to fit together. A replica of this barn is on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC

The museum plans to periodically host events like corn mazes, pumpkin patches, farmers markets and dances. The farmstead is located at 50 Southfield Rd. Check the calendar of events in the link below.

Allentown offers lots of unique little shops and businesses as well as restaurants.
Several beautiful horse farms are located around here and I want to mention especially the Riding High Farm because they are working with disabled children.
My favorite part are all the older Victorian villas there.

Mercer County Park -- at the border of West Windsor, Robbinsville and Hamilton has a public ice skating rink open daily in the winter. For $8 admission (children are $6 and skate rentals are $3) you can skate all day in this enclosed rink. There's a snack bar, lunch tables and lockers available. You can also bring your own food if you want to eat or have a child's birthday party there. The high schools in Mercer County also have their hockey games at this rink. You can pick up a schedule and sit in the stands to cheer on your town's team.

Take a look at my quick video of the Mercer County Ice Rink below.
