In the heart of Plainsboro, not far from the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, and the ever-charming Plainsboro Village, lies a home development of approximately 355 single-family homes called Walker Gordon Farm. These homes are located on the site of the former Walker Gordon Dairy Farm. The Farm, comprised of 100 acres, was first purchased by George Walker, a Boston businessman, and Gustavus Gordon, a scientist, in 1897.

There, Walker-Gordon produced milk products that were considered the standard of their day, including what was to become "certified" milk, as they strived to produce a cow's milk that more resembled human mother's milk. The Borden Company eventually purchased the Farm along with the milk producing facilities there and invented the automated milking machine. For a peek at the automated milking machine that Borden created, see the link below.

Thinking about living in Walker Gordon Farm? There are homes on the market there now. Expect to pay anywhere from $670,000 to $745,000 for a 4 to 5 bedroom house on less than a 1/2 acre of land. This is a great place to find a home!

In 1984, when we moved to Plainsboro, it was a quaint town with lots of open farm land around. There were four apartment/town home complexes and very few single family home developments. Driving into town on Dey Road was magical, as though you were entering an enchanted forest away from the hustle and bustle of Central Jersey.

Today the town has grown so much with its population at 20,000+ and an excellent school system. There are plenty of housing options. Plainsboro has still retained its charm and quaintness. Developments are nestled among trees, parks and farmland. The feeling of openness is still visible. Even now, when you drive into town along Dey Road, you can feel that magic and that's why it still calls my name!

Walker Gordon Farm has a long and rich history in New Jersey. Since the late 1800's, Walker Gordon Farms was an innovator of "safe milk" production. Fast forward 100 years and the 180 acre dairy farm has given way to a collection of suburban homes in Plainsboro. Just minutes to the Princeton Junction Train Station and downtown Princeton, this neighborhood is in high demand with home buyers. Take a look at my one minute video tour below and also check out the link for an interesting history or the Farm and Elsie the Cow!

Princeton Crossing, built by K. Hovnanian in the mid-1990's, is one of Plainsboro's more affordable single family home communities that is under 25 years old. Prices start around $500,000 (yes, I know I said "affordable", but for single family homes in this school district, this isn't a bad price). Kids can walk to the Town Center School and playground, and the community has a pool for its residents. The lot sizes are very manageable for a busy family, yet big enough for backyard playing and barbecues!
