    Mendham Township, NJ
Founded in 1749, the Mendham area (Mendham Boro and township) was once a bustling farming settlement complete with textile mills and sawmills. The rise of industrialization after the Civil War, which saw other areas such as Morristown become more built-up, largely passed Mendham by. It became an agricultural suburb with abundant natural resources and a tranquil place to live, which it remains today.

Mendham is home to quite a few lovely outdoor recreational areas. The Brookside Beach recreation area on West Main Street is lakeside and offers swimming, picnicking, and even ice skating in winter. Ralston and Wysong fields, both off of route 24, have multipurpose fields suitable for football, soccer, and the like; they both also have a baseball/softball field. Mendham has several indoor and outdoor tennis courts; the Mount Pleasant Recreation Area on 40 Mount Pleasant Road has courts. (The U.S. Sports Institute hosts tennis classes here in the fall).

There are many hiking trails available in Mendham's picturesque parks. India Brooks features two one mile loops through a moderate forest route, and the Buttermilk Falls area has nice views of the waterfall over a three mile route (if you take the Upper Trail). For seasoned hikers looking for a longer, more difficult trail, the Clyde Potts trail is four miles long through more rugged terrain.

Mendham, is a beautiful town with a lot of history. Ralston Cider Mill, located in the midst of hilly landscapes, historic homes and tree lined streets, is the last remaining working cider mill in New Jersey. It is a learning experience for the whole family. Nearby you can pick your own apples and pumpkins at a local farm. A great day to spend a day with your family.
