The Silas Riggs Salt Box home was built pre-revolutionary war and originally stood in the Suckasunny Plains of Roxbury Twp. Silas "Captain" Riggs excavated the first Morris canal section in Ledgewood, between canal lock 1 East and the inclined plane 3 East. He then purchased three canal boats. In c.1847 his son, Albert Riggs acquired a store on what today is Main St. Ledgewood and which is the King Canal Store Museum today. This was directly across from the canal basin. The store served canal traffic and travelers along Main Street which was then considered the turnpike. Located on Main Street in the Ledgewood Historic Park, the home is open to the public on the second Sunday of each month from 1-4 p.m.

The King Store was located just yards from the Morris Canal and thrived during the Canal's active working existence from 1831 to 1870. Operated by Theodore F. King from 1874 through 1928, the store was originally purchased circa 1826 by Silas "Captain" Riggs, Emma Louise King’s grandfather. The King Canal Store has a unique features, 2-1/2 story building constructed of stone. At the ground floor the walls are three feet thick. Theodore King took over the building in 1874 from his father-in-law, Albert Riggs and ran the general store and post office very successfully as it served road travelers, canal traffic and the local community. The Canal Store Museum is open to the public on the second Sunday of each month from 1-4 p.m. and is located on Main Street in the Ledgewood Historic Park.
