As the summer season ends and fall rolls in, Lake Mohawk residents are actively doing activities preparing for the winter! Boats are being wrapped, kayaks taken in, and all beach docks being brought in for the season. It's a scenic place all year round, but drive by in the fall! The leaves boast bright, vibrant colors. Residents are doing final fishing outings, and the smell of firewood burning in people's hearths provide the smells of the season. Take a drive and visit, it's worth the ride!

Lake Mohawk, Sparta is a private lake community surrounding the main Lake, Lake Mohawk, as well as a country club and boardwalk. The center of town consists of a small architecturally interesting "village" of shops and restaurants. New additions are the Garlic and Oil Shop, and the restaurant St. Moritz Bar and Grill. They have done a wonderful make-over of the restaurant as well as adding outdoor dining. The Nutty Sweets store is only a few store fronts away. The anchor brewery, Krogh's, has added a new sign and exterior look as well as added outdoor patio dining. Stop in and have an ice cream at the Alpine Creamery with colored Adirondack chairs for your pleasure!

The Lake Mohawk Country Club restaurant now offers outdoor drinks and dining on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the public, and for members. Also, there now is a tiki bar sitting on the beach overlooking the lake with live entertainment on weekends. So if you haven't been there in awhile, or are not familiar with this hidden treasure, stop on by, it's a great place to visit and enjoy the remainder of the summer!

The rain has stopped! Hurray! It was so nice to go out and enjoy a beautiful day on the boardwalk at Lake Mohawk. The Annual German Christmas Market is an event rich with tradition and community support. Night time dazzles with twinkling lights and Tudor buildings, as you are transported back to Europe to celebrate the season. Last night the rain dampened the crowds...but today the sun was shining and the Market was open until 5:00 pm. This is an annual event so be sure to put this on your calendar for next year!

  • Our Fourth of July celebration at Lake Mohawk is the best. The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off on time (made it through the rain) and was enjoyed by all. Our Lake Mohawk Ski Hawks Competition Water Skiing Team did a wonderful job of showing the club members and their guests what they can do.
This year, we got a little early rain in the day but by 4:30 PM the sky brightened up for the bar-b-ques to get underway before our yearly fireworks display. This year I spent it at my goddaughter's home along with her most gracious husband celebrating their first July 4th in their new lakefront home.
We started the day with a boat ride around the lake with a couple of cold beers in hand
(thank God the driver was a sober man). We laughed and waved to fellow boaters as we passed the many lakefront celebrations of the day. It is really a special place to be and I feel privileged to live here with my family. People were kayaking, sailing, fishing and just out at their homes having a wonderful time. The Boardwalk restaurants were also packed to capacity with patrons waving as we drove by. We got back to the dock and were treated to a super buffet by our hosts of bar-b-que meats, salads, pasta, burgers, hot dogs. Our entire families were laughing and listening to music and having a real, old fashioned Fourth of July.

The highlight of the evening started a little after sundown with the traditional large bang to get the party started. The ooo's and ahh's at the pyrotechnic display were really syncopated with all of the families in attendance. The show itself was fantastic, the colors were surreal and it was enjoyed by all. The show ended and I reluctantly went home with my wife, to the sounds of all the young people in attendance singing an acapella rendition of "God Bless America". What an ending to our joyous celebration of this special day. Does it get any better then this ?

Every year, Lake Mohawk Country Club, in Sparta has its annual fireworks display on the lake. You will find many people overlooking from boats and the dock just to watch this spectacular event! The weather this year was rainy all day, but, the evening turned out to be lovely. It was a chilly night at around 65 degrees but the fireworks display was well-attended and was a great time.

I am a fan of the snow and an avid skier. I love the snow and we certainly have had a lot of it. So much my back is aching and let me tell you about the arthritis (LOL). I am worn out from shoveling. The worst of all: I blew out my snow blower! That is what separates the mountain men from the lowlanders, doing it with no snow blower. It also creates snow insanity which I may be a victim of at this time.

I think it also makes the anticipation of spring even stronger. I sometimes run to our local pubs to break out of Cabin Fever and hoist a few Guinness. Only they won't let me take pictures of my brethren for reasons unknown. I can say that the snow was beautiful, but I am happy to see the first day I can tee off and enjoy the sun. The best time of all times is coming to our community when spring rolls in, it is truly grandiose. The crocus break loose and it all gets going. The smells, the flowers, the lake light when daylight savings begins, as Lake Mohawk awakes from it winter slumber with Boardwalk nights of dining, overlooking this special gift of Lake Mohawk. I can 't wait to jump in my boat and head over with family and friends to have dinner at the club. The good life will be upon us to thaw out the club and its members. God knows we can use it.
  • I grew up in Brooklyn New York and it was wonderful, stick ball, johnnie on the pony and so many street games I can't tell you. Then I lived in the Big Apple. The day that my wife and I purchased our summer getaway in Lake Mohawk, I will always remember as very special. We sat on our steps and yodeled on The Woodbines off West Shore Trail. What a Lonesome Cabin we just brought. We overlooked the lake and we had our own community beach. The home did not remain our summer getaway. My wife became pregnant and we had out first child so we needed a larger home which we purchased and then had another child.

It has been a dream to live in this very special place. My neighbor, a master fly fisherman, taught me to fly fish and I became addicted to stalking large mouth bass with a fly rod. I played tennis at our own club which is part of the Lake. We have our own golf course which is spectacular and it is not a walk in the park. Golf is another addiction of mine. I ride my bike throughout the community and it is spectacular. My walking photographs will soon come on line and I think that viewing the lake through the eyes of this resident will show the light that this community possesses. My opportunity to become a realtor in this area was wonderful life changing event, especially after doing the NYC commute for many years. Many people who have purchased from me are among some of the best people and friends that my family has.

The only thing I can say about Sparta and Lake Mohawk is come visit for one day and enjoy this wonderful magical place you will not regret it. It may become your home for life

Charming and wonderful is Lake Mohawk. Located in Sparta NJ, Lake Mohawk is a private residential lake community. This lake has such a special feeling. The boardwalk called Deer Plaza is a great place to dine on a weekend. The buildings in the tiny town center resemble little castles that reflect alpine architectural styles. Rustic and warm is how I would describe this distinctive architecture in the town center There is an outside restaurant that is open from Memorial day to Labor day for members of Lake Mohawk only.

There are special events scheduled throughout the year. Annual events such as the Beer and Wine Tasting and my favorite, the German Christmas Market where I go every year to find great Christmas treasures. The Holiday Tree Lighting, Easter and Mothers Day buffet, 4th of July Buffet and Fireworks. Several beaches are provided along the edge of the lakes to enable residents only of Lake Mohawk to walk to the nearest one.

Membership in the club is required for owners and renters alike, and membership is a requirement for residents. An attended gated area, resembling castle turrets, exists on the western "trail", which leads to the homes on the Manitou islands. Also located along the western shore is a very nice golf course. Also really neat is the Alpine pool, located in the mountains of the community and is spring fed. The water for the Alpine Pool comes from a spring that rises from an even higher peak in the mountains and has a panoramic view of the county. Lake Mohawk is a truly special community to live in. Just 1 hour and 20 minutes to NYC.
