This Fourth of July weekend Miss Lotta and Lake Hopatcong Cruises honored local vets with complementary rides around the lake. Members of the community from around the lake lined the shorelines with flags and fanfare to honor the local veterans from the Lake Hopatcong community.

Halsey Island is a private island located on Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey. I have the pleasure and privilege of living on Lake Hopatcong and going to Halsey Island just about every day. Last year the nesting pair of eagles hatched two eaglets who have remained in the area.

Fortunately, there's a nesting pair of eagles on the island again this year. I was a little worried that they weren't going to make it through a recent wind storm. I am happy to report and to document the fact that they are still nesting. I captured this video of the female calling out as the male circled around the nest on April 11, 2016.

There are several places to launch your boat on Lake Hopatcong, including Lee's County Park and Hopatcong State Park. Be sure to go through your mental checklist especially if the ramps are busy and you feel rushed. Sometimes just hanging out and watching boats being launched can be an extremely entertaining activity in and of itself.
  • If you can't wait for the ice to melt and get out on Lake Hopatcong, here's proof that the boating and recreation season is right around the corner. Lake Hopatcong's Knee Deep Club holds its Annual Trout Stocking of the Lake in late March and the public is always invited to help. The trout arrive between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. at Dow's Boat Rental in Nolan's Point. If the lake is still mostly ice covered, the trout are released by volunteers who transport the fish in buckets via car or truck to the few open water areas available. So many enjoy fishing on the Lake - why not help get the Lake ready?

Local Resident and Knee Deep Club member Anthony DaCosta recently landed what he estimates was a 25lb/48" Muskie in Main Lake. Although the conditions with the freshly fallen snow and cold temperatures may slow some people down, it will not stop them from attending the fishing tournament hosted by the club.

One of the many highlights of living on the water, specifically Lake Hopatcong, is all the incredible natural moments that surround you. From watching the ducklings grow, to this incredible light show in the leaves shown below. If you pay attention you can't help but marvel at the sights and you are inspired to wake up every day.

The Knee Deep Club sponsors an ice fishing tournament on Lake Hopatcong every year. This year the fishing contest will take place on Sunday, Feb 16, 2014. The newly fallen snow is going to slow people down a bit, as will the 14 plus inches of ice, but it will not stop them. Keep warm and be safe out there my friends. Stay hydrated. Adding to the excitement is a recent catch of a 48" Muskie by Anthony DaCosta in late January.

Since at least the early 1950's, Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club has sponsored the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club has always funded the launching of their fireworks from members' dues as a contribution to the wider community. Every year this has been our family ritual during the weekend of July 4th. What a fantastic display! It’s always fun to tie up boats together with friends to ohh and ahh over the show that never disappoints!! We get close enough to smell the smoke! A fabulous way to spend a summer night and just another reason the lake is an awesome place to live.

We don't always get real good ice on Lake Hopatcong, but when we do one of the activities you can participate in is ice fishing. Always be careful out on the ice as natural springs and shifting ice can make for dangerous situations.

In the Prospect Point area of Lake Hopatcong, there are lots of places for family fun to be had. Capp Beach is one of those places. if you live in this section of the Lake Hopatcong community. This is a private non-profit beach that you can join to enjoy the amenities of Lake Hopatcong. Capp Beach provides swimming and year-round social activities. A newly remodeled Tiki Snack Bar provides hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, soft drinks, as well as many other food and snack items. One of the best things about the summer food options here on Lake Hopatcong is my favorite: a boat cruise to a restaurant for lakefront dining at the Jefferson House Restaurant. They have great food in a casual lakefront setting and they also offer catering for banquets, weddings, and special occasions. Located on the east shore of Lake Hopatcong at Nolan's Point, Jefferson Township, The Jefferson House Restaurant has been a part of the landscape of Lake Hopatcong since its construction in 1926. Open full swing for lunch and dinner May through September, it's a great spot to eat with family and friends. Don't have a boat? No problem. Enjoy a narrated one hour scenic tour of New Jersey's largest lake. While touring the lake, you will see all the magnificent homes and learn the great history of our lake. So for only $12 per person you too can " book the cruise!"
