The Hamilton Township Azalea Festival at Sayan Gardens happens on Sunday, May 8th from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. My family enjoys coming here every Mother's Day and the weather always seems to cooperate for mom! There will be craft and food vendors as well as over 250,000 flowering bulbs, dogwoods, azaleas and rhododendron, along beautifully landscaped walking paths, fountains, bridges, gazebos and a small fish pond, all on over 30 Acres.

When people think of Hamilton Township, many images might come to mind since the diversity of the town's landscape is so varied. There's a city feel to parts of the town, an area of horse and agricultural farms, plenty of suburban sections and there are some historic areas as well.

One of my favorite sections of this 40 square mile town is Hamilton Square. Known for its award winning Steinert School District, you will also find many parks, including one of the largest County parks in the state, Veteran's Park. There is a busy commercial district here along Route 33 within walking distance to the historic Mercer Street featuring mid-late 1800's homes and brick sidewalks. Of course, there are plenty of post-war, suburban developments in Hamilton Square as well. This is a highly desired area and offers homes in a wide range of prices from the mid-100's to over $500,000.

The legacy of J. Seward Johnson, sculptor and philanthropist, is this most glorious sculpture park in Hamilton Township, Grounds for Sculpture. Spread over 42 acres, the sculpture garden and museum, envisioned by Johnson and opened in 1992, exhibits over 270 works of art, including the sculptures of Johnson himself and another famous New Jersey artist, George Segal.

This wonderful place is well worth a visit. And after hours exploring the grounds, you can have a great meal in the restaurant, Rats, which sits among the works of art. Grounds for Sculpture is a frequent site for weddings and other special occasions and is one of Mercer County's most attractive landmarks!

When most people think of going out for an ice cream cone they rarely think of making a night of it with music and entertainment. But you'll change your thinking about that when you visit Halo Pub in Hamilton Square. This rustic, dairy barn inspired ice cream shop not only has reasonably priced, delicious ice cream in dozens of flavors, but on weekends you can even enjoy your cone or sundae while watching a band or maybe a singer on a keyboard or guitar.

Halo Pub is located in a small strip mall. The exterior is unassuming but the interior looks like a step back in time with old dairy farm motif decorations, wood beamed ceiling, metal milk jugs and dark wood floors and furniture. Stop in and enjoy unique ice cream experience.

Located at the Kuser Road entrance to Veteran's Park in Hamilton, is a small, seven room home originally built in 1730 on Crosswicks Creek. Today, this home houses Hamilton's Civil War and Native America Museum with hundreds of artifacts, many found locally. There is also a section dedicated to President Lincoln with historical items related to him as well as a room that highlights African American efforts during the Civil War. Many weapons, uniforms, letters and photographs are on display including muskets and swords produced locally in Trenton during the Civil War.

Hamilton has a rich Civil War history with New Jersey's first Civil War training camp located in Hamilton in 1861.
